Looking to get a new MP3 player for Christmas

I have an iPod mini. (That was THIRD gen, right?) I'm just getting bored of it to be honest. I want to have Video and more memory on it. Mine right now is the 4GB.

I'm not 100% sure if I want to just get a NEW iPod, because those new iPod nanos are kinda sexy :) But.. meh, really.

Something is making me want a Zune. But something also tells me there might be something wrong with it. Maybe because of the word "Microsoft" in front of it. Although, if this had some kind of connection with the 360..that might be pretty awesome.

ANYway, I know there's some new MP3 players coming out, as well as some MP3 players that just came out. Price range I'm looking for is really no more then $300 (which seems to be pretty reasonable for MP3 players nowadays). The one thing that the Zune features that I like--that's kinda silly--is it also has an FM radio. It is nice to just listen to the radio once in a while. I also believe there is an MP3 player..i THINK it's called "iClix" and it's able to play flash games. Hmm.

So if you have any recommendations, or know of any websites you can direct me to show me some good comparisons with all the new MP3 players out/coming out.. I'd love it!

Basically: An MP3 player that has a decent size flash/hard drive (doesn't HAVE to be massive like the 80gb ipod!), that can do a little bit of everything. (Music, video, radio, and even possibly flash games!)
 
Cowon A2. Around $320 for the 20GB version, at least it was when I got mine... record video, audio, radio, even schedule recordings, hook up to a TV to play video/audio...
 
I'd wait just a little bit longer to see what Apple cooks up. Their 6th generation model is bound to show up soon considering a new version pops up every year.

FYI, the 6th generation iPod is rumored to have a widescreen covering the entire face of the iPod. The click wheel is incorporated into the iPod's touch screen as a "digital click wheel," that pops onto the screen when you touch it, and disappears when you leave it alone. This is all rumored of course, but its been over a year since a new iPod model came out, they are bound to update it soon.

They already released this year's model -- the 80 GB and 30 GB iPods. With the exception of more storage space on the 80 GB model, they're pretty much the same as the 5th gen iPods released last October. They do play movies and games, though. Not really a huge improvement -- if I want to play games on a handheld, I'll buy a DS Lite. If I want to watch a movie, I'd prefer to see it on a slightly bigger screen.

The 30 and 80 gig models are not true updates. They are the "incentive updates" as I like to call them. Basically getting customers to purchase "last gen" models so they could release the new versions. iPod mini (not the current version) did this when they "updated" from 4 to 6 gigs, 4th generation did this when the slight upgrade was adding color and photos. The new 5th gen only adds a brighter display and more HD space. It is not a true update.
 
I was thinking about the Creative Zen Nano Plus as my first MP3 player. Would that be a good idea for someone who doesn't know a lot about computers and music management?
 
I think that especially if you don't know a lot, you want something which acts like a drive, which you can just copy files to. Like the zen nano, but not like the ipod (which "magically" does everything for you, in its own way). Mind you, creative likes to remove features in firmware upgrades ("you wanted to keep recording from FM? Sorry, the music industry scared us, so we disabled it. Hope you're OK with that.")

By the way: Total Commander.. The best, to my knowledge, file manager for windows machines. Not free, but worth it (let me know if you know of a free one that's almost as good. Something like that's the first step towards understanding what's really going on inside your machine.
 
I agree with you. Since the release of the "new" iPods has been highly publicized, I just thought I would clarify for the OP.

Hmm.. I'm kinda liking the Creative Zen Vision W. That seems like the "best" one of the Zen's? Though, the Cowon looks pretty interesting to.

Aren't there any sites that can give you like a comparison between them all and give user reviews as well?
 
Well, I'm sort of an iPod fanboy, so I am going to recommend getting the 30GB iPod with video (or whatever comes out before Christmas, if Apple really is going to release another iPod this year). I have the earlier version of the video iPod, and I really like it. It works well, and video is surprisingly good even on a small screen. And of course, you know about the iPod's scroll wheel and user interface.

But it's not just the iPod itself that makes it such a good choice. It's all of the things that go along with having an iPod, like iTunes, the iTunes store (with by far the best selection of music, videos and now games), the thousands of 3rd party accessories, etc. There are a lot of decent devices out there that are similar to the iPod, but they usually fall short when it comes to usability, and none can compare to the iPod's other advantages that I listed above. If you really want an FM radio, get the iPod radio remote.
