For those just tuning in...

At a salesperson's suggestion, I bought Paper Mario. It was $20 and came with a $20 gift voucher. Later I found out, that EB Corporate wasn't going to honor it.

Well after much complaining, I got a mesage, that UPS tried to deliver an overnight letter from EB. I called EB and it was my Paper Mario gift voucher.

Ok, maybe they're not so evil after all.
Why would you complain that EB wouldn't give you a voucher when they weren't supposed to in the first place?
Why do you feel they were they not supposed to? They advertised a $20 gift voucher.

Did the salesperson say you would be able to get the rebate at the $20 price? Maybe that's why you were the exception.

The voucher is not for sale items. Paper Mario was on sale for $20 (reg price $50). It doesn't make much sense to sell games for $20 with a $20 rebate.

When they advertised a $20 voucher for that golf game, it was already a Greatest Hits title.

And when I bought my copy nobody informed me of a sale. I just asked what the price was, was told that it was $20, and mentioned I was going to send for the gift voucher. That's it.

They've done things like this before (games free after voucher).

Why are you giving EB the benefit of the doubt?

There was no stipulation in the offer that a "sale" game didn't count.

rallen . . . who, what form did your complaints take???

I called EB up abouot it, they acted like I was crazy thinking that I'd for some reason not get my rebate. Though, from the point I talked to them, they said it'd take another 2-3 weeks, so I expect my voucher either this week or next.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it but I think the store policy is no vouchers for sale items. If a game is $20 and they give a voucher than they really must value the free space in their inventory over possession of the game...

I don't set store policy, or even try to understand it; I'm just a customer.

And the coupon simply states "cannot be combined with any other offer or discount". There was no posted (or otherwise indicated) offer or discount when I purchased my copy, thank you very much.

just my 2 cents here, I got both hot shots golf fore, and syphon filter for 20 each and got both 20$ rebates......not asking why they are unloading them that way, but they do.
The complaints I dont understand are the people buying the game for 10 bucks and complaining they arent gettting a 20 gift voucher like everyone else. They wont pay you to take the game......

I called and no progress was made. The CSR said that no one had been sent the gift voucher. OP, if you receive the voucher could you scan it or take a picture? EB seems pretty adamant about not honoring this, even saying they covered themselves by having the "not responible for typographical errors" note on the rebate form.

 Somebody is actually sticking up for EB shafting people on this gift voucher! I wouldn't consider a game being marked down to invalidate the offer if their policy is to exclude games on sale it should say that on the form. As schultzed said they've done plenty of free after voucher games in the past. And remember they aren't giving out cash, just credit you have to use at EB. So it's not exactly the same as giving away the game to clear up inventory. And that's beside the fact that a certain % of customers won't bother with mailing in the form.

They fucked up by marking the game down to $20 while this voucher offer was active. They should suck it up and deal. But I guess they'd rather just piss off their customers.
Why are people acting as though EB owes it to them to give them the voucher?
Because they fucking do owe it to us! That's the only reason I even bought the game so soon!

The only statement that gives them any wiggle room is the "Some exclusions may apply" But I don't think that can be translated to "Oh yeah, no one is gonna get it" Well, it can, but our reaction is the result. I sent mine in much later than most (last week, didn't have to be postmarked till the 14th), so we'll see what happens with that. The whole "not responsible for typographical errors" thing is ridiculous, as there's no typo on the form. The price was just less than what they planned on it being and stated in the flier, so sorry for them. If they only planned on it being applicable for $49.99 purchases, they could have stated that on the form right next to the "not valid on pre-played purchases".

It’s not a rebate. If it were a rebate, I would be getting a check for 20 dollars. Instead, I’m getting a voucher good only at EB games stores.

And it does make sense for them to give conduct these promotions. For example, I now have a $20 voucher that I put down to buy the Zelda game. I have spent a total of $50 dollars ($30 for Zelda and $20 for Paper Mario) at EB games. Had they not conducted this promotion, I would not have bought the Zelda game at their store and they would have lost out on $30.

vouchers do two great purposes.

1. helps stores get rid of excess inventory
2. gets people to purchase other products in addition to it..

i was told WAY back in may that the MIDWEST manager would call me and deal with my complaint and i never heard from them. I think im going to call them tomorrow and complain again cause i just seen the game again (I called about the 20 buck rebate but also they had the MK ps2 game for 12.99 it said collectors ed includes full game and extra disc BUT They would only sell me the EXTRA DISC even though the box says both disc at 12.99

Right, but the asshats can claim the typo is NOT having a stipulation that the purchase price had to be $49.99. (Never mind the fact that their 'fine print' is the same on all of these forms as far as I've seen and they've never had any sort of stipulation on purchase price that I've ever seen...)

As I said in another thread, I'm just really surprised EB pulled this move. They've been great with these vouchers in the past. I've done 3 or 4 of them on other games and only one of the vouchers took longer than 2-3 weeks to get e-mailed to me. I'm not sure if I'd never do another one of these offers with EB, but if I did it'd probably have to be a game at a price I'd nearly pay anyway without the added voucher and I'll just consider getting the voucher as an absolute crap shoot.

I have to feel bad for the employees at the B&M stores that pushed these vouchers on customers as a great way to get Paper Mario for 'free'. I know I would have been doing that (thinking I was doing everyone a great service) and now I'd feel like a damn chump.

Ok, a funny thing about the voucher. It states, "Thank you for participating in our gift voucher offer for: Customer Service" WTF?

Obviously, CS overrided this one. I know that they got in touch with the manager at my local EB. He verified that he did tell people it was $20 with a $20 voucher. (To all the haters; yes, EB does this sometimes, In fact on Friday, Black Monday and Rumble Roses will be free after voucher. Or so they say...)

I spoke with Rhee (SP?) at x4018. The CS number is 800-800-5166. Maybe she can help you guys, too. Just be cool with her. She took care of me!

Good luck to all...
also why would it be an overnight letter???
Ask and you shall receive! I didn't even know UPS did overnight letter delivery...
