Lumines vs. Lumines 2

Music in Lumines 2 features such great artists as Missy Elliot and Black eyed Peas

Seriously, get Lumines 1. It's probably cheaper and the music is actually good.

the main difference is the music, i've played both and the first one just seems like it has better music overall. I guess it's a personal taste thing in the end though.

Lumines is $10 and has great music

Lumines 2 is $20 has bad music

Your choice = ) As a new PSP owner, I went with the first

I think it's a funny coincidence that at least in my experience, I haven't seen any copies of used Lumines, but I've seen several of used Lumines 2.

I had no idea... now I'm glad I didn't pick up Lumines 2 when it first came out.

This reminds me of Donkey Konga, first game had... decent music. But the second game had nothing but crappy music.

i have sealed copy Lumines (PSP) for TRADE. If you can get me Sega Gennessis Collection (PSP) at BB for $5 after coupon or Death Jr. 2 (PSP) at BB after coupon.

Lumines 1 has two Nobuchika Eri songs in it which warrants a purchase over Lumines 2.

'Lights' and 'I Hear The Music In My Soul' is my two favorite stages in the game.

How can you resist?
Lumines II is better by a long song, except it doesn't have single skin mode. :(
Couldn't you just use skin edit mode, pick one skin, then set it to endless?

I hadn't played the first game until recently. After hearing the bitch-fest that was the Lumines II tracklist announcement, I expected the first to have quite good music. I was sorely disappointed, unless of course you're instantly good enough to get very far in the game.

I thought there was much more "meat" to Lumines II. After picking it up, I gave my copy of Lumines to a friend of mine. I'm not thrilled with the music in either game, honestly, so that's not really a factor for me.

Lumines I is overall a better experience...

only reason to get Lumines II is for a few extras and this:

but you can get the same exact thing without the crap on XBLM.

or you could get the Japanese version of Lumines 2, which has Japanese songs in addition to the Western songs.

I would say if you had to buy Lumines 2, stay away from the US release since the japanese one is far superior and less annoying.

Hahahha. No it doesn't. It actually has ZERO new songs and only TOOK OUT a few of the music videos.

Man, you guys and your hate of American music is sad.

I am actually really surprised by the hate for Lumines 2 in this thread. Even if you hate some of the artists like BEP or Missy, I'd say the other songs more than make up for it.

If you are interested in Lumines at all, I'd say buy both. They can both be found for under $20 now (used at least =P).

Don't forget, you have other options on consoles as well...Lumines Plus on PS2 or Lumines Live on 360. Unfortunately, I believe "Heavenly Star" isn't available anymore on marketplace though. I'd say PSP versions are the best because of portablity and the game just feels right on a handheld.

It is true that the Japanese version is missing a few songs such as Missy Elliot's "Lose Control", it gained new songs such as "Konomama” from Def Tech.

Have you played Plus? God, it's horrible. Why they didn't think to have a widescreen mode, I can't imagine. Plus, some of the music sounds choppy...

Also, I've heard that Heavenly Star might be returning...

Anyways, yeah, Lumines 1 is way better than II. Shinin' alone makes it better.

I'm, conflicted.

Non concensus subjective YMMV...grumble...grumble...

But glad OP made this thread since I had the same question. Just seems like getting both is overkill. Maybe leaning towards 1 if the dynamics are the same.
Hahahha. No it doesn't. It actually has ZERO new songs and only TOOK OUT a few of the music videos.

Man, you guys and your hate of American music is sad.
Yeah... because Missy Elliot, Gwen Stefani, and the Black Eyed Peas is the best our country has to offer.

No one here is saying they hate American music, but rather the songs that were chosen.
Couldn't you just use skin edit mode, pick one skin, then set it to endless?
Too much work. :p The game save I downloaded (I'm too lazy to unlock all songs), has tons of songs listed and going through it would take a while.

I thought the music in Lumines II was also, and people always call be the biggest Japanophile.

I've clocked in over 40 hours with each one. But I keep coming back to 2. I hate the BEP & Gwen Stafani songs, but the Chemical Brothers, Beck, and new songs make up for it. The new modes are cool too. If you can get past a couple crappy songs, 2 is a better game, imo.
i dont get why everybody likes the weird ass japanese songs
Well, I don't see why you find it weird, seeing how Missy Elliot and Gwen Stefani would both sell their soul to be Japanese. If I'm going to put up with Missy's distorted sense of rhythm [and her who knows why belief that she is sexy] and Timbaland's eclectic choice of beats [which are all too common in European dance music and J-urban music] or Gwen Stefani's unhealthy obsession with harajuku [which is just WEIRD] and blatant J-pop song structures [because I swear, every single song of her sounds like an amateur performing Ayumi Hamasaki singles] , I might as well listen to the real thing [Japanese music] instead of watered down crap that does little provoke or stimulate the mind in any way. And as for Black Eyed Peas? [not to offend anyone] their shit is more wack than Morning Musume [and I hate Morning Musume/Hello Project] and Fergie, by the way, you're not black and you have no humps, in the back or the front.

Because it makes them feel important when no else around them knows of it.

That's ridiculous.

Since you're so opposed to anything that isn't American. I suggest getting rid of any Japanese made video games, better yet, any game that isn't American.

Then you'll really fit that anti-cultural stereotype that Americans have.

Edit: Nevermind. Going from your profile, you're just trolling.
