Machine error in Ohio

I'm not a big fan of it either, but if people want it used, they should have a paper trail. In NY we use the machines with the levers. I like it, its fun to flip the levers.

I know. I live in NYC. In fact, where I vote made the NYP for voting irregularities.

Levers? We don't even have levers.
We draw a line between two halves of an arrow so it makes a complete arrow. I guess it's kinda like a scan-tron.

Yeah, we have a machine that has a lever for each possible candidate, and you flip the lever for the person you want. When you are finished voting, you pull a lever that records all your choices and rests the levers. I lived in Queens last time I voted, and the machines are huge. They stand as tall as a person, and roll on wheels. I moved to Long Island, and the machines are smaller and put on tables. I kinda like the compact design. It looked like they had thay type of machine on last week's Inside the NFL

Same here. Pretty easy to do imo.
I used butterfly ballots.

Maybe I really voted for Michael Badnarik? Who cares, Bush won.
Maybe the fucking people that have brains care about where their vote went you dumbass.

Maybe Bush won because his brother and his daddies old friends made some of the machines they voted on in Florida.

People who aren't idoits like you care if they vote is counted or if the election is a fraud.

you whiny democrats make us all look bad. STFU already and get over it. Winning Florida after the 4 hurricanes was inconsievable. Of course some of the popularity of Jeb was going to rub off. No need to rig an election when it is going to turn out in your favor

Also, I do like the arrow system dtcarson mentioned. Nice because you can vote straight party ticket but you can also override straight party ticket on specific candiates if you want to.

Addressing voter fraud or massive voting machine error is not whining.

It's disturbing no matter who benefits.

it was 3000 votes. if it was any other place in America none of you would have cared.

Why do you think that?

Uh, I would have. FL was one by less then 600 votes last time. You play this game, you're just waiting to have trouble. It needs to get fixed, next time, for good.

Cause... you wouldn't.......*whoosh*
And why do you think that?
because it has happened everywhere.

Why not mention the one in NC, where there are at least races still needing to be decided becuase of machine error? Like I said, if this was not Ohio, it would not have been posted and no one would have cared

There are errors like this every election and there always will be in some state during some election. That said who the hell cares, by my calculations and everyone elses 4000 is not equal to 130000. Yes it should be corrected for the future, but I don't think it had some kind of damning effect on the election.

You better believe that banks hardly ever lose a damn cent.

15 votes is a "who cares" amount.

3000+ votes is a WTF amount.

I bet you'd care if one of YOUR votes was in that 3000 pile.

CaseyRyback, I would imagine (and agree) that it probably wouldn't have gotten as much attention if this error hadn't occured in a swing state, but I can't agree that no one would care. Voting error is a serious problem no matter where it occurs because it diminishes the "voice" represented by each citizen's choice of who they want representing them. In this particular instance, less would probably be vocal about it if it hadn't happened in Ohio, but no one is a strong phrase to use. I care; camoor cares, and though I don't know you beyond this post, it seems by your mention of NC (and my subsequent assumption that you took the time to read the article that far), that to at least some extent you care. And you are not 'no one.'

If there were local elections that were extremely close (like here in NC) I would care more if my vote did not count. I then would understand people being pissed off, but the reference of this topc is more on the line of Bush getting more votes than he should have. People on this board are extremely partisan, and I am tired of hearing Democrats whine and make excuses for Kerry losing.

I had an optical scan ballot, whish is the BEST available.

It uses the same type of technology as the SAT tests, only the dots are bigger and spread out, and you don't have to worry about underfilling or overfilling the circle.

For a local election maybe, but seeing as this wasn't a local election error and my vote among the 3000 would be of little consequence I think I'll live.

I agree that all voter error that's discovered needs to be corrected for the future most certainly, but I still don't think we'll have an election anytime soon that is error-free. You know I didn't vote for Bush either, but Kerry lost, it's time to pick up and move on, dwelling in the past over seemingly meaningless errors to the results and such like this does nothing for anyone.

Yeah that's how it was when I voted in advance.

Also my thoughts. To address this we really should have Jimmy Carter's commission or whatever it's called fix this by following their guidelines. I mean I HONESTLY don't see the problem in doing that. Then whenever side has suspicions the election was rigged for either side they can look at the fact that this organization checked it out and it's "A-ok".

The reason WHY I posted the link to the article had nothing to do with whining about Kerry losing. It was the first one I saw about electronic voting machines screwing up. I am not registered with any party, because I make up my mind on the candidate, not which party he belongs to. I vote for both repubs and dems. I also posted it because I feel that electronic voting machines with no paper trail or back up pose a threat to our democracy. What happens if a power surge occurs and wipes out the memory of the machine? All those people just lost their vote because there is no way of getting them back.
