CaseyRyback, I would imagine (and agree) that it probably wouldn't have gotten as much attention if this error hadn't occured in a swing state, but I can't agree that no one would care. Voting error is a serious problem no matter where it occurs because it diminishes the "voice" represented by each citizen's choice of who they want representing them. In this particular instance, less would probably be vocal about it if it hadn't happened in Ohio, but no one is a strong phrase to use. I care; camoor cares, and though I don't know you beyond this post, it seems by your mention of NC (and my subsequent assumption that you took the time to read the article that far), that to at least some extent you care. And you are not 'no one.'
If there were local elections that were extremely close (like here in NC) I would care more if my vote did not count. I then would understand people being pissed off, but the reference of this topc is more on the line of Bush getting more votes than he should have. People on this board are extremely partisan, and I am tired of hearing Democrats whine and make excuses for Kerry losing.
The reason WHY I posted the link to the article had nothing to do with whining about Kerry losing. It was the first one I saw about electronic voting machines screwing up. I am not registered with any party, because I make up my mind on the candidate, not which party he belongs to. I vote for both repubs and dems. I also posted it because I feel that electronic voting machines with no paper trail or back up pose a threat to our democracy. What happens if a power surge occurs and wipes out the memory of the machine? All those people just lost their vote because there is no way of getting them back.
