Mad Catz "Retro-Style" PS2 Controller $4 (legit) @ Best Buy

CAGiversary!
I'm not a PlayStation 2 owner, but this looks like a helluva price on one very cool, collectible-type controller.

BestBuy.com offers the Mad Catz RetroCon "Retro-Style" PlayStation 2 Controller, model no. MOV 58202, for a scant $4.24.

The RetroCon is fashioned after the original Nintendo Entertainment System controller from the 1980s. Features include twin analog sticks, illuminated analog buttons, D-pad, and two vibration motors. Shipping adds $4.99, or order it online for in-store pick-up.

I've just started seeing these things tagged at $4.99 in-store at my local BBs recently. Unfortunately, this means the general public will likely empty the physical stores of any remaining controllers before long.

They been tag for $5 at local BB and no one buys them. Prbobably because they are nice to look at but not that good to use.

I have 4 of them and I like them. They were cheap and they're pretty good to use. Not too great with Fighters, but I love playing music games and PoP with them.

Has anyone played any sports games with these? That's what I MAINLY play, so I'd pick up a couple if they work well with NBA Live, MVP, Madden, etc. etc.

I have alfonso and I would NOT recommend for sports games....the trigger buttons L1,L2,R1, R2 are all lined up and I've played sports games like boxing, football, and basketball and would much rather stick to my Logitech wireless or Default DualShock 2 controller....It feels to me that I can't get a quick response that is especially needed in sports games IMO....

The back buttons are lined up? Like this:

L2 L1 R1 R2? That would make it tough on sports games. Still thinking about maybe getting one because they're cheap and I need a controller.

These would be extremely hard to play sports games with. I really enjoy these controllers when playing Katamari Damacy though. Something just feels right about the controllers with that game.

Do you say it's hard to play sports games because of the back buttons on the controller? Any other reasons? In MVP, you really only need to hit the L1 or R1 button for running extra bases and hitting the cutoff man. Madden you use L1/R1 to pass, juke, and stiff arm. They don't really require any combinations.

So, any other reasons why it's hard with sports games?

i've gone through about a quarter of a season in MVP with this controller and have had no trouble. The L and R buttons are strange at first, but once you get used to them they are fine. I would DEFINITELY pick these up if you have a best buy near you. No reason not too. And I actually believe that they are extremely comfortable.

I had the controller. It's nice to look at and all, but it's difficult to get used to having 2 of the shoulder buttons in a different place.

Well last night I went to one of my nearby BB and checked it out. They had one controller, but it was priced $14.99. So I went home and put two on store pickup at the other Best Buy for $8.XX. They confirmed the purchase and said I can now get them...:)

sounded great until I saw the pictures of the L1/2 and R1/2 buttons... I don't think I can adjust to the new layout after 10-years of conditioning my brain and reflexes with the old Sony pad.

The analog sticks for the controller is great. The directional buttons are really crappy, the other buttons are okay (they are kind of unresponsive and require you to really push down on the buttons)
