Make $150 by Not Playing Your Wii

CAGiversary!
There is an article about selling your Wii now while the prices are ridiculously high and then buying it back in January when prices come back to normal.

What does everyone think? Anyone considering selling their Wii because of the high prices? The only thing holding me back is a Wii party I already have planned for the middle of December (I can't have a Wii party without a Wii).

Here is a chart in the article showing the price changes.

Your still going to be paying over retail significantly in January.

If you're willing to wait longer. Go for it.

You'll make some little kid happy plus you'll pull in a profit. Win Win situation.

That isn't tracking just systems though. Those numbers include extra peripherals and Wii play with them. You aren't paying $550 for a system only on ebay. Only ones that get up that high have the Wii Play and possibly an extra nunchuk

Virtual Console games don't transfer to new systems either.

Certainly, prices will be lower come the new year, but theres really no telling when supply will actually meet demand.

Imagine the scenario in which the mass media and the likes of Oprah, for example, get a hold of Wii Fit next year. The shortages could continue for longer than we think.

If you're not going to play very much or need the money, sure, sell it.

HaHa.

I think they will be hard to find in January too. The article basically says you sell the Wii now for $590 on Amazon. Then buy it back at $350 on Amazon in January (assuming it is still hard to find in stores). After fees, that is how you make the $150.

I think prices will definitely be coming down in January from what they are now.

I havent had a prob in finding one. Im tempted to buy one or two and flip to ease my credit card purchases on black friday.

well, i won't be selling my personal wii, but the ones that arrived from Amazon yesterday will certainly be going out in the next week or two for $125-150 profit apiece. Kinda important to make that profit now that I've got a new $600 dental bill to deal with. It was gonna pay for a trip to New York, too :whistle2:(

I can't imagine that those Wiis on Amazon are actually selling, though, when the going rate on Ebay is hovering around $400-450 shipped.

Where do you live that they are easy to find? Just curious.

Oh god, I can see Oprah giving her whole lame ass audience a Wii with Wii Fit. And then everyone in the studio has a heart attack made of pure joy.

Working at a game store, I have zero problem finding one. So what's stopping me?

One, it's used, lowering the value a bit. Two, my Miis and saved stuff is on there. Three.. I just don't want to.

Isn't that your aunt and uncle?

I work at a video game store as well, and Wii's are pretty common. I recently bought mine for around $40 after store credit and discounts on some peripherals I purchased as well.

I could easily sell my wii for a good profit in my area, but I've come to terms on liking it too much to sell it off so quickly.

I wish Wii's were as easy to come by here. I still have a few friends who would like one and it would be nice to sell one or two also.

Come on now. Wii's aren't common. Yes they are common in that you probably get a shipment twice a week, but then they are gone instantly.

Just because you see them come into a store 2 times a week doesn't mean they are common to the general buying public because clearly they aren't. If they were common they wouldn't be selling for $400+ on ebay.

Well from a purely economical stand point he has a great idea. With things like this the old saying, "Buy low, sell high," certainly applies but the ethics of it are purley on a personal level. Even though I don't play my Wii very often, I still love the thing and I wouldn't sell it for a small profit of $150 dollars. I was lucky enough to find one a week after launch and another for my gf (who absolutely adores the thing) about 2 months after launch. You can find them but man you have to do your research and really be willing to drive just about anywhere in your state to get one. I found both of mine at video game stores surprisingly enough, so people still need to be patient.

However, if I find another one at random around here, I'll certainly pick it up and post it on ebay for an inflated price due to the demand of the thing.

I mean they are common in the sense that we get shipments periodically, plus more and more people have been trading them in in the last few weeks. I've seen at the very least, about 12 Wii consoles in the last month come into our store, sit a day or two, then get sold.

It's really funny because our highest selling products are Wiis (when they're in) and NES and SNES consoles (also very high in demand, as soon as they come in they're gone).

I was thinking about buying one and turning it around for some Christmas cash. I haven't actively looked around here, but I don't see any lines or anything for them.

Might be helping someone out in another part of the country while making some cash. I already have one that I'm not selling, but eBay scares me.

EBay scares me too but for whatever reason there are real people out there that have no sense of value so roll with it. Heck, I posted an ad on CL for $350 and I had a dozen legit offers with no haggles in under a half hour. I think people are just willing to pay a premium so that they don't have to leave the house.

Judging by how high the demand for this system is, I'm not surprised it would fetch a little more. But, the problem would be finding a replacement after selling the first one. Good luck to those who try this.

I just posted my extra Wii on ebay a few days ago. It is at $400 plus. I think davo1224 must be right people are willing to pay more online. OR there are certain markets where the Wii is even harder to find.

Whats funny is not only are the Wii prices going up..
but ther shipping for the wii is also going up to looks like between 34.99-39.99 shipping..
