They're trying to pass this 3,000 page bill and that's a lot of pages since they just got the bill a few hours ago.

Anyway, a staffer just figured out that there's a law tucked in the bill that allows a certain chairman (i forget which comittee) to look at any income tax return and publish it if he wants. This would supercede all privacy laws. They all want to get home for thanksgiving and they can't leave until they get this bill passed or else there's no budgest starting tomorrow.

Anyway, now they're all going nuts trying to figure out the parlimentary procedure to remove this law, because no one on either side of the isle claims they want the law passed. But it was pointed out that the law got snuck in there somewheer so someone wants it passed.

Anyway, it's funny watching them tear their hair out. It's on c-span 2.

what the hell do budgets matter anyway? They've been operating without one for almost a year and just raised the debt limit.

Yeah right, they care about budgets...

It sounds like a distraction, to me. I doubt that anyone actually does want that passed, and I'm sure they know that it'll get removed from the final bill. Removing it will take so long, though, that there won't be any time left to examine the rest of the bill, so lots of other bad crap will sneak through into law.
I would read the first page, say its sucks and vote it down...
I woudl look at teh size of it and vote it down.

Heh, that's exactly what a ine of the Senators said. He recalled that during the Regan Administration they sent a 1,200 omnibus bill to President Regan and he vetoed it. The bill was so large and completed so quickly he felt that no one knew everything that was in it. So he vetoed it.

This bill is more than twice that size.
Why cant they just pass one bill at a time. None of this lets sneak some more shit in at the last minute.
Because they ALL want to sneak shit in. They simply disagree about what shit to sneak in.

Last year they snuck in a part of the failed Patriot Act 2 that gives the FBI the power to demand any financial records on anyone they want from banks, casinos, car dealerships, jewelers, travel agents, post offices, and stockbrokers, and they must keep it a secret from that person, all without even having to ask a judge.

This isn't a case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing, this is a very deliberate abuse of legislative power.

Here's an article about it.

Dems Vow to Act on Tax Return Provision

There's actually a rule against this, and I'm disappointed that any member of the house wants to ignore it. There's supposed to be a three businessday delay between when a bill leaves committee to when a bill can be voted into law. This is to give House Members time to review the legislation. But recently, with many recent bills, the house members have gotten less than 24 hour notice.

Why can't they just follow simple rules that are supposed to help everyone. It's their own rules for God's sake.

Because the Republicans don't care about the rules and want to push things through before people know about it. They use every dirty trick in the book. Tom DeLay should be in jail.

From the article:
But Pelosi said Tuesday that Democrats will object to voice-vote approval of that bill unless Republicans agree to start heeding an often-ignored rule requiring that the House not vote on bills until at least three days after they are approved by committees.

Republican leadership aides said Tuesday they will not agree to that demand.
