Mazda 6 and Gas Mileage

CAGiversary!
Hey everyone, I have a 2003 Mazda 6 (v6) and wanted to see who else has one.
We just bought a Honda Pilot, my wife and I were trying to figure out her gas mileage, its about 19 mpg.
Well I decided to check my car out and in a 5 week period my average is about

15.5 mpg! Its listed about 19mpg! My wifes SUV gets better gas mileage.

So I am thinking about getting a Mazda 3 4cylinder or a Accord Manual.

anybody else have a Mazda 6 with crappy gas mileage???

I do not drive one however I do work on them I work for a gmc/mazda dealership. gas sucks on them not much you can do outside of tunning it up and running a real good injectore cleaner through the system. on the flip side the maz6 is a great handleing car and fun to drive. so you give a little to get a little

i have a 01 pontiac gran am GT and its killing me. college, work, and other stuff everyday.

bush doesnt care about cars.

though the cost of driving a paid for car is still less then that of buying a new car - when you figure monthly payments, insurance cost, etc

your gas mileage all depends on how you drive. If your hard on the throttle and have under inflated tires etc yours is gonna be low. I drive an acura integra(which i'm selling check my sig :) ) and it's says in the manual 30 But I drive slow tune up my car regulary use cruise control whenever possible and I get about 36. Your MPG also depends if you do alot of city or interstate driving

I have on '03 6s (V6) manual, and with aggressive driving doing about 50/50 highway/city driving with the A/C on auto I've been getting 23.5 mpg. With the A/C off in the Spring I was getting 24-24.5. I haven't taken this car on a long highway trip yet, but I would expect to get up in the high 20s to near 30.

With the gas prices lately I've been trying to change my driving style by not accelerating so fast, shifting sooner, and going into a higher gear than I normally would to keep the RPMs lower. I haven't gone through a whole tank of gas like this yet, but I'm nearing 200 miles before a half a tank so that's definitely better than the 170-180 I would get before.

You didn't mention whether you have the auto or not, but they are slightly worse with the gas mileage, but not as bad as you're getting. Like others mentioned, check your tire pressure, also you may need to replace your air filter. Also, measure more than one tank of gas before you panic. I had one back in June that was 18.8 when the one before was 24.5 and the one after was 23.7. But if the low mpg is consistent, both the tire pressure and air filter are ok, and you don't do 100% city driving with the A/C on and floor it at every takeoff, then I would bring it in to get checked.

Oh yeah, check the sticky in this Mazda6 Club forum for what other people are getting http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showforum=2 . Keep in mind the 2005 ATX transmissions are 6 speeds and get better gas mileage than the 5-speed MTXs (and because it's programmed to shift really quick).

That's horrible mileage even for a 3.0 L, V6 engine, you'd have to be in just about nothing but stop & go traffic. I suggest you look into it and maybe take better care of your car if need be. Follow some of seeya's advice change simple things like the air filter, cut down on your A/C usage (I hardly ever use mine), watch tire pressure, etc. Unless it's a lemon, cars only perform as well as you take care of it.

Also, if you're buying a new car for gas mileage and want a smaller engine you may as well get a hybrid.

I have the Mazda3 5 door hatchback, automatic transmission with 160hp I4. I get 24-26 MPG, depending how hard I drive it.

Just filled up yesterday after my trial of driving more conservatively, I got 26.2 mpg, and that was with more city driving than usual. My previous tank was 23.1, so there is a big difference if you don't accelerate as fast and shift around 3k instead of 5k or higher. Problem is, it's not as fun to drive this way .

You get the best milage with tires properly inflated, shift around 2.5k, no AC, leave windows up on the highway, avoid stop and go...

In the city with my sentra I get around 31mpg, all highway I get around 36.

I also have an '03 V6 Mazda 6. I actually haven't been paying too much attention to the mileage, I've been enjoying driving it so much (over two years old and I still love it to death.)

I'll have to look over the next day or so and see what I'm getting. I'll try to post info soon.
