McConnell Filibusters His Own Bill To Lift Debt Ceiling

Credit goes to last night's The Daily Show for bringing this to my attention. Basically McConnell brought forth a bill that would allow the President to raise the debt ceiling unilaterally unless the Congress voted with a 2/3 majority to stop him. He thought he was trying to make the Dems look bad by giving the President more power which I am sure would play right into the Republican base. Turns out Harry Reid took him up on the offer and called for a vote which prompted McConnell to Filibuster his own bill (not before asking that 60 votes be required for passage which is just a laughable request). That is some political Jedi mind trick shit if I have ever seen it.

What do you expect? He's a Shaqfuer. Reid proposed the reinstatement of the talking filibuster, and McConnell goes on tv complaining that Congress isn't dysfunctional because of the filibuster despite his party constantly whining about having one over every bill.
 
So he was playing games?
His whole plan was call for a vote , have Dems say no , then he can go to the press and media outlets like "See , Democrats arent serious"
Am I reading that right?

Gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that its possible Republicans have jumped the Shark...

I'll never understand : Protect the brand at any cost even when the brand has become irrelevant and inconsequential.
 
It's actually quite sad to see how badly McConnell flubbed his lines here. Just utterly clumsy.

Worse than that is that my family is all from KY (including myself, originally), except they're hyperconservative - so they vote for this fucking joker.

There's shades of gray. This is a pretty egregious example. Really, it's the most egregious example I can think of.

Well I and 99% of other people that use this site but don't visit this board all the time aren't part of the secret club then.
 
Finally got around to watching the Daily Show clip. Funny how they edit the chain of events so there's no mention of the fact that Reid originally objected to the proposal, then did a 180 himself.

I guess that just doesn't make for as good of comedy.
