with a lot of price drops on ps2 games, i've been having trouble fitting them into my two memory cards. i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to manage save files and back them up to a pc (kind of like the dexdrive for the old ps1). instead of spending 19.99 or so for a new memory card (that only gives me 8mb), i'd like a solution for "infinite" storage space. i heard about some people being able to back up to flashdrives, but was looking for some cag input. thanks!

The Codebreaker and Action Replay Max cheat devices allow you to transfer your saves from the memory card onto a USB flash drive and from there, transfer them to your computer. There are older devices (Sharkport, X-Port) that I'm not familiar with that also do the same thing.

If you have a newer slim PS2 (SCPH-770001 or newer), none of the devices will work since Sony changed the drivers to allow only official USB devices.

I'd suggest going with the Codebreaker since I've read that AR Max has a tendancy to wipe out your memory card during transfers and can be finicky with any USB stick other than the one it comes with. Also, if you can find a Codebreaker at Toys'R'Us, they're $5 when I got mine in December. Or, you may try the trade forum.

Hope this helps.

Mine's worked fine for the handful of times that I've used it. The only real thing is resisting the urge to use the cheats to make games easier. When you go, make sure that you get one that's Version 8.0 or higher since any model before that doesn't support the USB transfer feature.

If you plan on downloading game saves from a site like GameFAQ's, make sure to download the PS2 Save Builder so you can change the save format (i.e. from AR Max save file to a Codebreaker file).

Doesn't the AR max evo work with the slim?? I brought the evo thinkning I can d/l save packs for FirePro R and backup my saves. I havent even had time to open the evo yet, so it'd help if I can know for sure before I open it. Thanks! Newer slims don't work with flash drives. Older slims do. Or at least that is how I understand it to be. Don't quote me on it.

There's also the Memor32. It's pretty much a 32MB memory card with a usb port, so it's recognized as just a memory card on the PS2. I haven't delved into the software but it should be pretty painless. Only catch is the price (50 Euros)

thanks for the responses, i guess i'll keep an eye out for all those peripherals (yeah, i did have fire pro in mind, coz i heard it owns your memory card space, and i wanted a full roster)

the memor32 sounds awesomely easy to use, but, ouch, 50 euros? damn...
