I’m looking to replace my hot and heavy 20” CRT (NEC FE1250) with an LCD. Seeing as my big goal for the monitor will be watching movies and playing games (all games – NES to 360 to PC), I’m planning on making the switch to widescreen. Right now I’m heavily leaning towards the Samsung 215TW, which is big, accurate, and has tons of inputs that should save me a lot of trouble.

My first question is: What do CAGs think of the monitor? To those of you that have one, how is the interpolation – both for the AV inputs, and non-native resolutions? IE: Will the Xbox 360 still look good when I run it at 1360x768? Does anyone suggest a different monitor?

Secondly, does anyone know of a deal on this thing? Reading user reviews on it, it has a problem with quality control and I may be returning one, so I need to go through a venue that will make that painless. Newegg is the strongest candidate right now, even though I wouldn’t want to pay to ship it back to them. Circuit City has a very decent price, and I’d probably bite on that, but it is a web only item. I don’t think using the store to exchange it would work out too easily. Finally there’s Dell. Dell has a much worse price than the other two, but I’m wondering if I would save money by waiting around for one of their crazy sales. Does anyone think it would drop low enough to be worth considering?

just remember when going from a 20" CRT to a 21"widescreen LCD, it'll 'seem' like you're getting a smaller screen.

when shopping for these types of items, always go to the B&M store and see for yourself first.

I just bought a gateway 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor from Compusa, and I have to say, I'm very impressed with it. I use the VGA cable and the output of 1360x768 is amazingly clear. I don't know anythign about that particular model that you want, but an LCD is a great decision IMO

(PS... mine was only 180 dollars after rebate, so I got a really good deal on it)

I have the Dell 2005FPW and I love it.

It has some tearing in fast paced games due to its size, but Vsync fixes that.

I can't copy and paste my review without it becoming jumbled up but I wrote a review for a PG $10 rebate.

It's the one under 'fyreboltx'.

I can't say enough good things about this monitor. I've listed my few peeves but I absolutely love this thing.

As for the quality control issues... Newegg is one option as they have the 1 year replacement plan and their replacement policy is god awesome. I didn't buy it from them as I saved $30 from elsewhere. I figure if anything goes wrong with this unit, I'll end up being raped for shipping no matter who I deal with so I might as well save some money now and deal with Samsung later, if I need to. (Knock on wood.)

I just bought the Samsung 205BW about 2 weeks ago. I love it. It's 20" widescreen and very similar to the 215BW minus the extra inputs. 360 is hooked up with vga cables and looks very good. Not as sharp becuase its not the default res of the monitor but still looks great, just a little bit softer. Compusa has the 215BW I think if you want to check it out at B&M. I paid $279 plus tax after rebates at compusa. Wasnt worth it for me to pay the extra $200 for the extra inch and the spare inputs. Might be worth it to you though. Anyways, I'd say go for it!
