From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).
Dr. Kirby,

Did you go to the HV in Jupiter? I was curious if I should make the trip up there or not? I've hit the HV in Hollywood, I believe three times with diminishing results each time. However, I have not been up there in a few days so perhaps they have converted some rentals.
I went there already
I managed to get quite a decent selection of gamecube games. But i didnt pick any ps2 or xbox games

What did you get, and how large of a selection did they have, in comparsion to the wellington one? Any good GCN games you saw and didn't take? And do they do rental conversions?

Same with you miller. I want to know which of the two to go off to tomorrow. (Though from the sounds of it, the one near Jupiter sounds like the best bet)

Base TIV 11/20
:ps2:
MX Vs. ATV Untamed - $5.75
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - $7.25
Godzilla: Unleashed - $6.00

:gc:
Star Fox Assault - $5.50
Tales of Symphonia - $7.00

:xbox:
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - $1.00

I'd love to go to Jupiter but it is about an hour north of me and if you go I'll opt out and let you take the haul. As far as Hollywood goes; The first time I went I picked up maybe 5 games and had to return two because they were so fucked up (Fatal Frame II PS2 and Baulder's Gate II). The disc labels were badly damaged and GS would not take them. The second time I went I picked up all the normal stuff Mercs 2, etc. The third time I picked up some more normal stuff. And the last time I was certainly digging and found all the original X-Box stuff, mainly Star Wars stuff. To be honest, I think I cleaned them out pretty good.
I went to the two down in Miami too. Hit those up twice, same result. I will say this the TIVs I am getting at GS have went consistently down. The first run I think I spent $70 and made $320, the second time I spent $50 and got $150 and the third time I spent $40 and got $90.
Tell me where you end up going so I can plan accordingly, seeing as how I won't be able to make a run until the evening sometime.

Gears of War flip worked fantastically. The clerks looked at me as though I was a crook. I was, I was.
Thanks to the poster who alerted us to that. I traded three at once at a store, so they don't seem to have a rule about quanity.

Ah, man, I hope it holds tomorow as I didn't get out tonight. I have no idea how or when GC/HWV updates prices, so we'll need daily updates on that puppy ;). I'm hoping to get 2 tomorrow and trade 1 to my fav GC and 1 to my local HWV. I'm still not doing more than 1 at a store even if it is allowed...

I traded in 5 copies at one store earlier. The store manager told me the limit was 5 of the same title. Someone confirm this for us please.

Oh, and I got screwed with the "in-store credit only." Oh well, I will try to buy a giftcard or something this weekend.

Well, not to mention that purchasing large quantities of a title like that from Gamestop could get you labelled as a "dealer". And they always put it in the fine print to exclude "dealers" from promos there. I'm in there enough without needing to raise more suspicion. I think buying 2 copies will be plenty (from one store, anyway). If all goes well with my GC and on-GC HWV trades (1 to each) and the value holds beyond tomorrow (assuming it holds tomorrow even!) then I might do 2 more...
Deal of the century!

So far, from this deal I've accumulated about $400 in GS credit, all my money back and then some. And with that $400 in credit, I used around $200 to buy 8 copies of Gears Of War(26.99 each or with cellfire like 21.xx) and sold those back to Hollywoood for $30 each. That's right, $30 for the original GoW!

wait wait wait...whats this about trading GoW into HWV? i was unable to find the post where someone mentioned this!
fyi

For anyone buying 'new' stuff at Gamestop to sell to recover cash laid out for some of the $3.99 flips. Anything bought 11/1-12/24 may be returned before 1/15-09 with receipt to GS.
This will take some leg work, but if some good Blockbuster flips come in the next month, you could buy used at GS, flip to BB for hopefully 1.8-2X credit, buy a Wii or WiiFit(assuming that's what you got at GS to cash out), then 'return' it to GS with your original GS receipt. Backdoor to transfering credit back to GS from BB. Just get hit with tax at BB.
Not return fraud, you would be returning the exact item.

I did the Gears (I don't like listing it as GoW, because to me, that is God of War first) at 2 HWV last night. The first one knew how to do a trade, pretty much, but he had to ask his manager a few questions, and I was sure it was going to get killed, but it went through. I had to sign up for a rental account, but that only took a few minutes. They weren't sure about using it for a gift card, so they told me to call tomorrow (today) to ask the main manager about it. I spent some of the credit, and I was not charged tax, since it was trade-in credit.

At the second store, the clerk had never done a game trade in before, but she eventually figured it out. I picked up a few games with the credit, and then asked about the gift card - she wasn't sure. I asked, "I can use the credit on my account to buy anything you sell, right"? She said "Yes". I asked, "You sell gift cards, right"? She said she had never done it before, but she gave it a shot and it worked. She could only give the gift card in a whole-dollar amount, and I will be charged tax when I spend it, but that store doesn't really have anything useful left.

Since I was using trade-in credit for my purchases, and since most of the really good stuff was cleared out, and since even the really good stuff has dropped in TiV, I have relaxed my standards a bit as far as minimum TiV.

If anyone tries the Gears trade today, please let us know your results.

Eh, not talking about if it is right or not. Just FYI, the GS receipt does have the serial #. It will work for wii fit.

all wiis have a serial number on the box, GS scans the serial number when you buy it. You cannot return a different system.

ALSO- Target has GOW on clearance for 19.98...

oh, nevermind then.
Just out of curiosity, am I the only one on here who has a bottle of Goo Gone residing in his car?
i dont worry about taking the stickers off......
the eb games ive gone to have had no problem with it....
and if anything it helps out because they know they are preowned and not stolen lol
i must find this gears on clearance
Forget Target clearance if you have GS credit, get it used at GS. They sell it for $26.99, so with cellfire + Edge, it is $18.89 + tax, and, in my experience, they have tons of them.

i was not able to capitalize on the gs credit as the only stores around me were movie gallerys and as far as i can tell they got a different pull list than hwv so i get to look at dozens of games that should be sold to me and arent

I have two.. Both Duck brand. Does that make me pathetic? :)

More importantly than all of this Gears stuff, can anyone still confirm that the deal is going today, or that a new deal is on today?
Where are you getting this 26.99 from the website says 29.99.
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=39213

I want to know this too. Did the price go back up or something?
Usually website prices match in-store prices at GS, but not this time. The ones I bought last night were all marked $26.99, and all rang up $26.99 (before Cellfire + Edge). There was one copy in-store that was marked $29.99, but I didn't bother trying it, as I didn't have a lot of time (I am pretty sure it would have been $26.99 like the others, though). They are all the same price, the normal one, the LE, the one that is normal but has a bonus disc, etc.

Thanks for the update :) I'll go check it out later today

Found a Rez yesterday. I know it isnt as valuable as it once was, but I was pretty happy to find it for 4 bucks and be relatively scratch free. Also had the manual too, which was a nice surprise.

Man I sure hope the HWVs around here restock their used games. Just about everything worth anything is gone...

The nice thing about the whole Gears Of War trade is that my standards have lowered and I'm only spending credit. hehe.

I'm buying and trading as many cheap ass games as I can until the Gamestop sale is over. After that, my standards will go back up and I'll just check if I'm nearby a Hollywood. I probably won't go out of my way anymore.
I don't know. He said a new download would be sent out to pull more games. Go to the HWV website and get the cust svc number and call it and talk to them, and see if someone else confirms what i was told. He said he had just gotten an email about it
Anyone else verify/deny? I called my local HWV and was told there were no new download of pulls today.

I found a Baldur's Gate II yesterday that absolutely was not there several days ago. I have a feeling that because some stores are more on the ball than others, there may be no way to assure yourself of whether a store may have new stuff without actually going to the store. I'm going to one of my 3 that I frequent in about 20 minutes. I'll post whether that store had different things than it had on sunday.

Is it really woth risk losing promotion deals at GS & creating a HWV account just to make a profit of $11 in HWV credit? Or $22 at most. You can't really buy more than 2 Gears at GS or to sell more than 1 Gears at a HWV if you want to keep on getting the $3.99 deals. And if I can't get the cellfire on my cell phone, then its totally not worth it.

Why not?
So the flip is an extra 10 per GoW?
Not worth it to me unless I'm missing something here.
2 Gears ($44 after tax for me, in GS credit) -> $60 in HWV credit.

$60 in HWV credit -> 15 $3.99 games

15 games -> $100-$150 in GS credit

Not to mention the fact that it's a credit to credit flip rather than using cash. That opens up a whole new level of possibilities and a higher profit margin.

I guess I'd rather just spend that $44 on $3.99 games rather than work for an extra $16.

After two big hauls from both HWVs here, there are no more games left that are worth trading in so no reason for me to go back for more.

Exactly. I just wish I had known before I spent cash on the good flips.

To each their own, I'd much rather not use real money.

Really, it's no work at all if you're going to flip games to Gamestop anyway. It's simple, almost all Gamestops have a ton of used Gears, and if HV takes in multples you can trade in 4 or more at once... that's $40 bucks extra for making two trips you were going to make anyway.

The point is not really to make that extra $40. It's that you're not investing more cash into flipping. I like to use as little cash as possible. When tabulating things for your records, remember that. The more cash you put into flipping, the less your actual ratio of savings unless you cash out regularly.
Why not?

Because if you buy more than 2 Gears from Gamestop you may be flagged as a dealer and lose out on any future promotions like the coupons. And if you trade in more than 1 game at a HWV they may dislike that and jeapordize your chances of getting the best games in their $3.99 sale.

well if you are trying to move the same credit back to HWV, you can either1) buy something at GS with credit, llike a wii, for 270 after tax, and get 225-250 on craigslist, and have to wait to sell it, and have to meet someone, BUT you get a huge chunk all at once, or 2)buy a few copies of GoW, make extra when u trade it, but you have to do more transactions

I don't see the merit in either of these risks, personally.

It's not common that you'll be labeled as a dealer for purchasing more than one title. I've only read of one instance where this happened and that was with a rarer title (Ico) and he would repeatedly come in to clean the store out (buying 6+ copies). I sincerely doubt anyone would care about you picking up multiple Gears. Ten? Maybe. Four? Nah.

And frankly, Hollywood Video has had completely crap deals until now. It's the one place that I really don't care if I'm banned from. It's a dying company where I am and this sale will only last so long until all last gen titles are gone.

That's true, but it works better the more base credit you have to work with. Since you have to deal with Craigslist or eBay, you have to essentially have lots of capital to recover the lost time in waiting (not everyone has a Wii deprived area like you, Capa ;-)). This is just an easy way (VERY easy... mindless, painless, and best of all can be done while performing the previous flipping routine) to get an extra chunk.

What do you need to get a trader account at HWV give them a CC? Since I can't get cellfire on my phone this is still a no go for me.

If, like someone said, you just need a regular account to trade, then you don't even need a credit card. I gave my Driver's License to the girl and that had all the info she needed. I didn't even have to fill out a form.

That makes sense.

I suppose it isn't that much trouble at all, may as well get the most bang for your buck.

I was required to give a debit or credit card. Probably my shifty eyes.
