From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).
Because if you buy more than 2 Gears from Gamestop you may be flagged as a dealer and lose out on any future promotions like the coupons. And if you trade in more than 1 game at a HWV they may dislike that and jeapordize your chances of getting the best games in their $3.99 sale.
buying 5 or 6 copies of a single game 1x isnt going to get u banned

Ok, I went at lunch, there were really no new games at all (and this is the store where the manager is really on top of things).

One thing I can't help but ask myself is how many people actually play these "cabella's" games that HWV felt compelled to stock that many rental/retail copies in the first place? Every store has about 10 copies of the Alaskan adventures game for sale. Are there really that many people that enjoy hunting virtual cold-weather animals?
What do you need to get a trader account at HWV give them a CC? Since I can't get cellfire on my phone this is still a no go for me.
all i have done is open the photo someone posted in the cellfire thread and took a picture with my cellphone and showed that, very few people will deny you if any at all because it IS on your phone and that is the only stipulation.

I live in TN. The only thing that surprised me was that they hadn't all been bought already.

yes

thanks for the info about the gears flip. i almost depleted my $200 gamecrazy credit buying up those 3.99 games and flipping to gamestop. i needed some gamecrazy credit to spend on black friday so i bought 2 copies of gears and traded it to a hwv for $60. manager let me purchase a gift card with it so everything went fine. i like how gamecrazy matches black friday ads so all my game shopping this year will be purchased using credit.
2 Gears ($44 after tax for me, in GS credit) -> $60 in HWV credit.

$60 in HWV credit -> 15 $3.99 games

15 games -> $100-$150 in GS credit
That's ALOT of bullshit to go through and ALOT of running around, if you ask me.

I was doing a bit of running to two HWV stores round here, but I'd rather try and keep some of the credit for stuff I actually WANT instead of making tons of trips that may be for nothing.

This isn't for people to go way out of their way though. This is for people who are about to drop off some games to Gamestop and will be heading to HV for another batch of flips.

There's NO extra movement there, just a few minutes more at each location.

Yeah, I can't believe no one would be jumping at this opportunity. Here's what I did.

1.)I took my lunch break at work. I needed eats, so I went and got those next to a Gamestop. After my eats, I went into GS and bought three copies of Gears of Wars. "LAN Party LULZ!!!"

2.) I went and traded two of these in at a Hollywood Video. "Lan Party sucks LULZ!!!" I get my 60 in credit, and pick out 50 bucks worth of games. They have no idea how to put the remaining credit on a giftcard, so I just buy a giftcard with it. 10 bucks or something, and I think I have like 30 cents left at that store account.

3.) Went to a Gamestop and unleashed my wrath. A lot of it was 5.75 base, meaning it wasn't terrific flips, but that doesn't matter because I'm using store credit at this point to make more credit. I buy two more GoW for good measure.

4.) I go to another HW and trade those two and the last original one I had left. "I FORGOT THAT I DON'T HAVE A SECOND OR THIRD TV SO NO LAN PARTIES!! LULZ!!!" I get 90, and pretty much get every good flip out of that store (Hey, I left seconds and thirds and fourths in that store and no one was buying for three weeks. Time for me to step up my game) I get the remaining 15.00 on a giftcard.

5.) Today I trade these in. I may get more GoW since it is a delcious flip.

See, if anyone reads through that there was a minimum of trouble. Trade ins are actually very quick once you have an account setup and I bought those GoW when I was in GS anyway. Buying the GoW was quick too since I think I've trained every GS employee about Cellfire. They don't seem to look at me like a scam artist anymore.

EDIT: GoW is still 30.
For anyone buying 'new' stuff at Gamestop to sell to recover cash laid out for some of the $3.99 flips. Anything bought 11/1-12/24 may be returned before 1/15-09 with receipt to GS.
This will take some leg work, but if some good Blockbuster flips come in the next month, you could buy used at GS, flip to BB for hopefully 1.8-2X credit, buy a Wii or WiiFit(assuming that's what you got at GS to cash out), then 'return' it to GS with your original GS receipt. Backdoor to transfering credit back to GS from BB. Just get hit with tax at BB.
Not return fraud, you would be returning the exact item.

all wiis have a serial number on the box, GS scans the serial number when you buy it. You cannot return a different system.

oh, nevermind then.
Actually this works well and you were right on track stone, you just have to use Wii-fit or Mario Kart receipts since they do not have a serial number on them.:D

But true, you cannot use the Wii's due to the serial number issue.
Just out of curiosity, am I the only one on here who has a bottle of Goo Gone residing in his car?
 No, I have a trusty half bottle worth of Goo Gone left and it sets right next to my video game collection for removing all sorts of BBV,HWV,GS stickers.

But I usually just peel in the car on my trade ins and if it leaves part of the sticker or even the full white part of the underside sticker without corporate emblem(BBV,GS etc.) and then I just trade them in that way.
They have no idea how to put the remaining credit on a giftcard, so I just buy a giftcard with it. 10 bucks or something, and I think I have like 30 cents left at that store account.
Yeah, I meant to mention that, if I didn't, they could only put a whole dollar amount on my GC. I have 3 cents left to spend in that store, any way I see fit.

Go visit the cellfire thread. You should be able to use print outs at many stores and/or load a photo of the coupon on your cell phone provided it is capable of displaying pictures.

P.S. Sorry for all the posts. I really must learn to multi-quote better OR wait before responding so I can bundle all them all in one.
What did you get, and how large of a selection did they have, in comparsion to the wellington one? Any good GCN games you saw and didn't take? And do they do rental conversions?

Same with you miller. I want to know which of the two to go off to tomorrow. (Though from the sounds of it, the one near Jupiter sounds like the best bet)
I'm not really familiar with that place. Went in and got the games I want. Although, they could have lego batman because i didn't ask them that.

but i did get

:gc:
LOZ TP x3
Mario tennis
Wind waker
Warioworld
metroid prime 2
RE0

Its all right if u ask me.

If you are planning on playing that stuff, you did awesome. If you eBay some of it, it might turn out well, too. Most of those aren't very good GS flips, though, except for Zelda TP, great find on that - amazing that they'd still have 3 left this late in the game.

Yea i bought it for collection/playing :)
and i had 5 copies but gave 1 away for a friend, for free, of course. 1 collection, and i traded one away for fire emblem. So i guess i have one left to sell so I can make up all that money i spent. and i still need to buy cases/manuals (or just take them from gamestop) to make my collection complete :D

I also got 3 copies for lego batman, so thats a plus
She could only give the gift card in a whole-dollar amount, and I will be charged tax when I spend it, but that store doesn't really have anything useful left.
Yeah, it's always been that way at Gamecrazy (the whole-dollar amount gift cards), so no surprise it's the same at HWV stores. I usually top it off with some change so I don't leave bits at every store. But often they will screw that up, so it probably isn't worth it. Also, MAKE SURE if you are adding credit to an existing card that they know that. If they ring it up as a new sale it hoses up your card and it takes them a long time on the phone to sort it out. This happened once at a GC store when I had my kids with me and it was miserable. The guy had to call all these different numbers to sort it out and in the end couldn't get it done. I wasted at least an hour waiting for all this and then ended up having to come back to this (out of the way) store a few days later to collect my credit after the manager handled it (and he was very unresponsive and didn't seem to know what he was doing either). It was a freaking mess...

BIG question to those who have traded at HWV, though - do they take your Gamecrazy MVP card into account? I'll definitely be trading one GoW to GC. With the MVP it ought to be $33 (works just like the Edge card except they don't scan it). I'm wondering, though, if the price is the same at GC? Like I said before, there's no way the guys there won't think that is really out of line (being gamers and all).
So the flip is an extra 10 per GoW?
Not worth it to me unless I'm missing something here.
Well, yeah, others have covered it, but for me, I've been using GC credit exclusively for this sale - haven't spent a real penny at HWV. But, I'm getting low on GC credit and want to build it back up for the BF deals and just to have in general as they are good for the occasional sale (plus those 12 free rentals you get with system purchases and I may want to get a DS for my daughter). I don't need it for the immediate HWV sale as I still have $94 or so on a gift card from my Gamecrazy credit (and there's nothing left to buy anyway), but I want to get it back up at least over the price of a DS.
i like how gamecrazy matches black friday ads so all my game shopping this year will be purchased using credit.
Just curious, but since I tend to avoid the BF deals because I find them near impossible to obtain (so I don't even want to know what I'm missing), what are you planning to price match at GC? Because this is definitely something I could deal with on BF and happily skip out on the rest of the mess.

Bleh.

I tried trading GoW to my local Gamecrazy and got quoted with $10.75.

I'm gonna head out to HWV and trade it there. I guess it doesn't work with Gamecrazy.

:whistle2:k... See, I knew this was too good to be true. Interesting that GC/regular HWV have different prices (hopefully). Please let us know ASAP if it is still $30 at the HWV. It's also possible it just dropped mid-day. I was going to head out this evening to get some copies and trade one to GC. I guess that's out, so maybe I'll bring both home to my local HWV. It won't be till late tonight though.

Hit a mother load CAG. Turns out I've only been pillaging 5 of our 6 (!!!!) hollywood video stores. I didn't even know this one was in town! Anyways, checked it out and picked up some '09 sports titles, lego batman, platinum hits GTA:SA, Mercs 2 and....

MOTHER F'ING MARVEL vs CAPCOM 2!!!! I already have a copy I bought original, so this one was for puuuuuuuure profit!

For what it's worth, my Hollywood Video was putting out a stack of about 40 PS2/Xbox games today. Nothing worth flipping, but at least there's hope for fresh pickins.

I think its a computer error that is giving us 30 for GoW. I traded in a copy and the guy originally thought i had GoW2 which was 30 credit, and looked at and realized it was GoW 1 and said weird they both have the same trade in value.

I traded in two copies of G[ears]oW to HWV today at noon for $30 each. The clerk offered to call and check the TIV for me at HWV/GC since I asked about using MVP (can't at regular HWV). HWV/GC TIV was the reported $10.75.

I had it put on a gift card so I could use it at either place.

Well,

I went off to trade in my two copies of GoW to my local Hollywood Video. One of the guys that worked there recognized me and told me that as of today, their GAMECUBE rentals were available for SALE!

I basically had my pick of the litter and got me a lot of stuff. To name a few:

1. Pikmin 2 x3
2. LoZ 4 Swords x2
3. Mario Party 7
4. Lego Star Wars
5. Fire Emblem x2 as well as many others.

I was stoked. I'm gonna use this get stuff at the B2G1 Black Friday sale coming up at Gamestop and convert those games at Blockbuster to get those coveted Macy, Olive Garden, JCPenny Gift cards. This sale has been truly epic and I want to thank all of you for posting such awesome information! :applause:

And yes, HW does trade in GoW for $30. ;)

Damn, no go on the GC rentals at my first HWV...I wonder if some stores will just do that Sunday as part of the normal conversion process. I wonder if the memo from corporate was "go ahead and sell your slow renting games, and that particular store decided to clean out the GCs...if you go back in, ask where the directive came from
So how was the store up in Jupiter , find anything good?
No, those 15 games were old sports games. The newest thing there was madden 07. I couldn't find something worth buying, and I hate HATE leaving someplace with out buying something. I am the guy who goes into good will, doesn't find something he really wants, and goes though the VHS and Books to find something worth owning, and takes an 30 minutes doing it so its not a wasted trip.

Did you try asking if you could go through the stacks?
Did you try asking if you could go through the stacks?
The lady there wasn't going to do rental conversions D:

Well, since the deal doesn't seem to be ending on Saturday (Unless they gave the people no notice, as I asked the store manage of the Wellington store), I am most likely going to go down to the Hollywood store on Sunday. Tonight though, I make a 400 entry long excel sheet of the 100 most valuable PS2, GCN, and Xbox games (Well, 200 for PS2)
So...no go on Mario party 6?
not yet. but the girl i asked is pretty much worthless. She stands around and talks to her teenage friends the whole time, and if you try to buy something, or god forbid, ask a question, she acts irritated to have to do anything. This is the store where the manager has a crush on me, so I'll go in tomorrow and work her for some info and hopefully your game.

Sweet thanks. :D
What's Hollywood Video's return policy? I bought a bunch of games, but half of them are scratched to hell.
HWV told me that as long as you keep your receipt you can return within a year for same title or if they don't have that game you can get store credit for the purchase price.

That is what a store employee told me when i bought my games. I asked an employee at 3 different stores and they said the same thing about store credit.

I don't know if your stores have those rubber mats with ads in them on the countertop, but at my two local stores they have their return policy CLEARLY displayed under one of those.

It actually says there are NO RETURNS on used product, so consider yourself lucky to get even store credit. If they wanted to be hardasses, they could strictly enforce the 'no return' rule.

This is why I didn't want to buy 3-5 more games tonight, since I figured I would end up getting something that's scratched to hell and would be hit with a $3 or so refurb fee like with Smackdown 2008 last time.

I did find a copy of Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2009 on the shelf, so the value for that should've been at least $10, but finding flips to go with it would've been damn near impossible. Both stores are SO picked over. Someone even nabbed the GTA Double Pack for Xbox I was considering getting for myself.

EDIT: I asked TWO store managers last night and they both searched their promo books and found NOTHING to indicate when this deal might end. This might be an ongoing deal until they sell out their old gen stuff, though I doubt they'd let it go THAT long.

with the few games i have purchased, i was told specifically they guarantee their used product for life and that i was able to return them if there was something wrong (no time limit specified, so i would assume 7-30 days) so it seems ymmv, of course this is mg since thats all i have within a 60 mile radius

Thanks for the answers guys, I'll play angry customer tomorrow, not get my way, but hope my anguish will at least get me some info on when the next batch of games will be put up for sale. ;)

Actually, let me try

fuck off newbie, I hope you're stuck with the shitty condition games. At least then it might teach you to CHECK them BEFORE leaving the store.

How was that?;)

I actually meant what I said to you as a question, asking if you had seen those by the register. It's you that was the douchebag responding like an angry little kid. Although maybe I was a bit harsh in how I worded it. Oh well.

I just went again tonight and couldn't bring myself to buy anything. It was really painful. From what I can remember the Hollywood store had SW: Battlefront II and Jedi Knights II. They also had about 1500 copies of Ratatouille (?) for sale. No more Lego Batman or Mercs, there were a few Family Guys though. As far as Gamecube games go there is absolutely nothing, aside from maybe an Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime 2 but I don't believe those get anything at GS. I think I'll try and talk to the Manager and see what she thinks about conversions because they have a healthy stock of titles to rent. I guess it is worth a shot.
That's too bad about Jupiter but it makes me glad I didn't have to drive all the way up there.
