Mushroom Men: Spore Wars

I don't know yet. I'm going to wait a bit and see what people say. I'm especially interested in the length as I heard it was a short game.

Well started playing the intro level and it seems like a b rate platformer I can see the camera could get annoying... Might return to it when my game backlibrary clears up.

I got this last night but haven't played yet. It really does look pretty crappy, but I want to encourage platformers on the Wii. There really aren't many that aren't licensed, and eventually I think it's a great platform for something like a Ratchet & Clank or Jak-style game (I know, those are Sony properties).

OK, I played this last night. It's not Ninjabread Man (which just seemed pathetic to me rather than terrible) and some obvious care went into the game, but it's definitely not great.

I should have known from the promo art, but the loading screens are pieces of art that look like the collective effort of every 15-year-old with moderate talent attempting to draw something "not like a comic book" in a heavy and muddy comic book style.

The graphics are pretty rough around the edges. There's not enough contrast a lot of the time for the amount of visual content on screen. There are some nice, brightly colored items or elements, but they don't stand out as much as they could.

The control is fine - you don't really need a whole lot out of this kind of thing - but I've already come across a few shoddy collision detection decisions (don't I sound like I know what I'm talking about!), especially when jumping around tall objects. The remote interaction is fine; swing your remote to slash and that's about it. I don't mind any amount of "waggle" (I'm sad that term carries such negative connotations) really, but I know it matters to a lot of people and it's not too tacked-on feeling here. Right away you collect pieces of garbage in vending machine eggs to build a new weapon. It wasn't terribly innovative, but I see open slots for a lot of possible pieces so I can see having fun combining items to make weapons. Although I seem to recall reading something that said the combination of items doesn't really matter.

The story is...Honestly, I skip stories in video games usually. I tried watching the cutscenes in MM to get into the story and just didn't care. I just wanted to run around and hit stuff. I'm so evolved.

Gasp! But anyway, I'm glad to hear that it isn't Ninjabread Man, but it doesn't sound to interesting, to a older gamer to much. It may be interesting for a 7 year old or so gamer.

Ultimately, it's not much better than your average movie tie-in platformer, but because it's an original property it gets a lot of extra points for many gamers. I'm probably significantly older than most of the userbase on this site so I tend to be pretty detached from the age aspect of games, but I think you might be close. I'm thinking more like 10 to 14-year-olds, but definitely leaning toward the younger/more naive.
