My Best Console Pick Up EVER

CAGiversary!
Okay, well it's 2 years after the fact and I figure I should brag. My EX room mate comes home with a ps3 he bought from someone for $90, a launch 60gb ps3.. so I do some research on why we aren't able to read games and sure enough it is the blu ray laser. I tell him this, and also explain to him I can do a simple repair on it to him. He refuses and offers to sell me the PS3 for his purchase price! Uhh okay I say and offer him an even $100... he gives me $10 back... Laser comes in the mail about a week later and boy was he pissed. Anyway it cost me $150 all together and it's running like new 2 years later!

He's got no right to be pissed- you told him why it wasn't working, you told him you could fix it, he sold it to you anyway. Sucks to be him for not taking up your offer. Great deal!

My buddy sold me his arcade 360 like 3 days ago for 20 dollars. It didn't have any of the cords because he sold those to his friend but still a backup 360 for 20 bucks (brand new in the box never been touched)

A friend of my younger brother offered to sell me his wii for 75 bucks with a bunch of accessories and games. I'm kinda iffy on buying used consoles though.

Maybe for a 360, but Wiis a generally sturdy - because nobody touches them

Never ever buy a used xbox 360 unless you know it's one of the newer HDMI models that doesn't RROD. Wii's are OK.

I did the same thing OP. Bought a 60GB PS3 broken from a guy on craigslist for $100 and bought a laser for $70 and fixed it myself. Plays perfectly. The only part that bugged me was the person selling it was a smoker and it took me almost a week to get rid of the ashtray smell. Congrats!

The Falcon has HDMI and they still get RROD, just less than the launch unit

Which lens did you buy for the 60gb? Mine is still running strong (knock on wood) but I'd like to know just for reference for the future.

KEM-400aaa I believe

Buddy gave me his Super Nintendo complete with about 15 HTF RPG's like Earthbound, Final Fantasy III, ect.

The price...reinstall Windows Xp with his install disc. Now 3 years later, I am about $500 richer and he is building his own computers.

Sometimes you can do really well on "broken" systems. I was able to get a PSP about two years ago for $25 because the analog stick was broken... a little bit of prodding and it worked fine. Last year I picked up a CIB Xbox 360 Pro for $60 because of the RROD at a pawn shop. At the time I figured it was worth the investment since it at least came with the HDD, controller, etc. but it turned out it still had it's warranty too so I just had to ship it out and voila!

Not a gaming deal but a few months ago I was able to get a 17" Imac(the model prior to the current one) from a pawn for $250 because it wouldn't boot to Mac OS when you turned it on. That was an easy fix.
