Anyone have anything good to say about the My Coach games on DS? Specifically Spanish, French, Japanese and Fitness? I have a bit of background in Spanish and Japanese. But I would like to become fluent in all three languages. Has anyone had any success with these? And how does Fitness compare to Wii titles in the same genre?

I've only tried My Japanese Coach, but my impression is that $20 (you're thinking about ordering from Amazon DOTD, yeah?) is worth it for the title. The best feature is that it helps you to recognize kana - reading and writing it - and it also includes an extensive dictionary/phrasebook; if you buy flash cards or a dictionary/phrasebook, that would probably be more than $20 alone.

For a thorough review of this and My French Coach, check DSfanboy: http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/10/30/my-japanese-coach-konnichiwa-and-beyond/

I've tried My French Coach and it seems pretty neat. Imagine Rosetta stone with games basically. It didn't really help with teaching me, which sucks as I'd like to be able to talk to my in-laws.

I got the Spanish one for Christmas, and haven't had too much time with it yet, but it will help you with vocabulary. It's lacking in the verb-conjugation department, but I'd say it's worth the money.

Thanks for the advice from everyone. I read the reviews from DS Fanboy (along with the IGN reviews I read earlier). Thanks for that link.
You're not going to become fluent from a DS game.
I know. But I already know conjugation and grammar for Spanish. I just need an excuse to sit down with vocabulary and memorize and use it. And I happen to know a few girls I am interested in who are fluent in either Spanish or French (What is it with girls and French?). That will be a good reason to use the vocabulary once I have some of it down. And I am already proficient in hiragana and katakana, and have basic grammar and some vocabulary in Japanese. I know the games themselves won't bring me to fluency, but they may be the nudge I need to take other steps (kind of how Wii Fit in itself isn't going to make you super healthy - but it doesn't hurt either).

I decided to get the three language "games" and since I have Wii Fit, have My Fitness Coach for the Wii on the way and plan on buying EA Sports Active, I'm skipping My Weight Loss Coach. I think these games will be fun. If I remember to, I may weigh in on these titles down the road since I didn't find much discussion on CAG about them.

I'm thinking of picking up french coach and my word coach... but I'm on the fence. Pretty cheap to play around with and see if I like them.

I've got My Spanish Coach and it's helped me learn a little spanish, but not enough to speak the language. But most of that's my fault because I just haven't put enough time into it. It's fun to use and is good for learning vocabulary.

I wish I had taken spanish back in high school instead of french, spanish is a much more useful language to speak from my experiences.

i saw the deal for $20 but didn't jump on the band wagon b/c i know i'm a lazy bastard and won't take advantage of the opportunity. These games have intrigued me. i took Spanish in high school, but barely remember sheeeeooot.

I'm guessing these games teach you as much as you can learn for free on the internet.
