My GOD!! I just got the Biggest game SCORE I ever had!! (PS2 FFXI:ToAU)

CAGiversary!
The following is a TRUE Testament of being at the RIGHT place at the RIGHT time.

I was driving around to get groceries, when a little voice in my head whispered that I should rent a new game today. So I go to one of those Mom n' Pop video stores to rent something (cause I'm just coming off of Prey- OK game, nothing special).

I go in and, lo and be motherfuckin'-hold, I should see for rent, a PS2 copy of a Treasures of Aht Urghan, an expansion pack for Final Fantasy XI (the latest), an mmorpg that I have played on an off for two years.

I was gonna BUY this game when I had money next month. So, me being the cheapassgamer that I am, a brilliant Idea came into mind. All the clerks saw was just a PS2 game: They have NO idea that it's just an expansion pack, to a game than you need the Original PS2 big models, the Original copy of FFXI and the PS2 HDD to play(which just so happens that I got those). :D I paid $5.34 total, got the instruction booklet, used the passkey in the back of the booklet, and voila, I got ToAU!!

Treasures of Aht Urghan is an expansion pack that is NOT rented. Anywhere.

In conclusion:
1. Goes to a small video store, sees FFXI:ToAU, an expansion pack, for rent.

2. Goes home, installs it, and gets ToAU.

3. Paid $5.34 now, instead than paying $29.99 next month. For a version of a game that is rather rare.

WHAT ARE THE fuckING ODDS, PEOPLE?!?

That is what I call "SCORE!!!!!!" :D:D:D

problem is, now you've got to play that ass-tacular mmo. oops.

Hate to rain on your parade, OP, this being the bragging rights topic and all, but I wouldn't be so happy knowing I screwed over a mom and pop video store. It would take some cojones to keep going back to this store in the future, though.
So you knowingly screwed a mom and pop store AND the renters behind you who won't get the game to work? Bravo, sir.
First of all, it's not the OP's fault a mom and pop store doesn't know what they're renting. Even if they knew, what can they do? Return an open game to where they got it? And honestly, STFU, because if he didn't do it somebody else would.

I thought it was Stupid Teenagers Forgot Uranus. I was way off!

yeah, whoops! or was it Standing Toward Future Ukraine?
You saved $25 and screwed over a Mom/Pop store at the same time.
They screwed themselfs... haha!

What are you, the OP's mom? And if you are, you have some lessons left to teach your offspring.

Although I think it's a lousy 'find', I really don't see how he ripped-off this indie rental store. They had a game for rent, he rented it, played it, and returned it. That's how rental stores usually operate.

Lighten up, Francis.

It's the idiocy of what he considers a "deal." Unless I'm mistaken, you need the disc to play the game. So he's getting a rental for a game you play for months at a time for enjoyment, and he has to buy it again next time to get the disc. Screws the indie store, screws himself, screws the next guy who tries to rent it.

I don't think you need the disc to play the game. Pretty sure it uses loads on the PS2's HDD like the last one. You just load it up once and don't need the disc anymore after that.

And again, I don't see why the stores failure to know what kind of games they are buying & renting is the OP's fault. He did nothing wrong except getting too excited about a stupid expansion pack.

Calm down, the mom and pop store made a mistake, yes, but if they put the gaem up for sae, its would be opened and prob. wouldnt sell.

Yea this is not a deal. Thats like me saying this.

So, I was at EB the other day and saw a HL2 CD key on the box just sitting there! So i wrote down the key and used it on my computer and it worked!! What a deal is that!

It took me quite a while to even figure out what the OP was so excited about, and now that I know, it makes him look like a jerk. Oh well.

man you guys are mean :p

I remember taking advantage of a trade 3 get 10 deal at EB and TRU 90% clearance deal and thinking I was some kind of genius because I managed to get Raze's Hell for $9 out of my pocket, instead of the $19.99 it retailed at

Yea...it's all fun and games until the store "screws" you over, then you can post your rant here, right?
