My GREAT loss...

PA capex

CAGiversary!
I really needed to tell someone about this, and seeing as i'm a new member and everything and this is CAG i figured it would be the best place to let it out.

A couple of days ago i went to a friends hip hop show at our university, since it was in the afternoon and i was going to get there rather early i decided to take my 360 and my game case, i house a bunch of games there including my ps2 ones. The day went along just like any other day, it was almost time for my friend to start his set so i hurried to put everything back in the backpack and rush to the place where he was going to host his show.

Afterwards we went to eat to celebrate his performance, had a good time. Once arriving home my buddy set up my 360 at home like we always do and we started playing some guitar hero 2. The next day i decided to put on my Halo 2 (i was a little rusty since i have been entertained by gears for the last couple of months) and that's when i noticed it.

MY case wasnt there...i looked everywhere in the room, and everywhere at the school, and even in my friends cars...i lost over 600 worth of games in that case, and although i know someone took it from the place where i had the 360 set up, i feel responsible for even taking them in the first place...i hadnt been this sad in a long time, it sucks to know that what i worked for so hard (my parents stopped buying me video games since i turned 15) is all gone in an instant...

thanks for the read guys...i just needed to get this out.

ok something doesn't add up here...

I take it this is at your Dorm or his dorm right?

Sounds like someone's roomate told their friends and there friends jacked your shit.

If I were you I would report your serial number to Microsoft so they can ban the system from Live. It won't get your system back but will piss off the guy since he won't be able to play online.

Your SOL my friend.. not to be harsh, but any current generation systems are hot items on college campuses.

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me in college, too, OP... except instead of video games, it was my innocence that I lost.

thats why im a firm believer in not taking all your stuff around or letting people know what you own. the more people know about your shit the more people will look to jack it. if your games are in a case why didnt you take the case with all the games with you into the room you were sleeping in? in this day and age you cant trust anybody. like someone else asked was this in a dorm or a house? and how many people would have access to the place if it was a house?

Now come to think about it, there is a good chance most of your games have been traded in to eb and the guy kept the good ones.

It seems like a great loss now but like most tangible objects, it can be obtained again. Sure it's shit that you'll hafta pay again for stuff you already have but at least you'll be able to obtain it again.

About 8 months after the ps1 (yes, ps1) came out, I went up to Chicago (a 2 hr drive away) to hang out for a while w/ some friends for a college break. As we were anxious to go clubbing, we went straight to the nightclub despite having all our stuff in the back seats in my car. I brought my ps1 and about 10 games (and since I'm a trendy whore) about $600 in clothing. So I parked my car in a clear and well-lit spot and go to the nightclub. When we got back out, my car alarm had been blaring at least for a good minute (as one of the cops told me a resident heard) as well as a broken rear passenger window. They took the ps1, the 10 games, all my clothing, all my friends' clothing as well as cd players and watches. Basically all we had left was the clothes we wore. The total damage (not including the car window) was $3K. But looking back on it now, it really wasn't that bad. I bought all back all the games (and cheaper than the 1st time) as well as a ps2 & ps3 to play it on. And clothing is always replacable. Lesson I learned is that if you've got valuables, lock that shit down and verify, verify, verify and verify that the place you keep your stuff is 98% secure. It was an expensive lesson but a lesson well learned.

Damn, that really sucks.

I had a buddy have one of those disc cases with 100+ CDs stolen from him on a plane. Obviously the thief was somebody sitting there, but there was no way to know which one. Pretty frustrating.

At least the asshole didn't take your entire console, probably because he was able to hide the case under his shirt or something and wasn't brazen enough to walk out with your backpack in plain sight.
There have been too many threads like this. It's starting to make me have second thoughts about bringing my games and consoles to college...
if i were you i wouldnt. especially if youre attached to it. im sure someone will have one so you could easily play theirs dorm rooms arent safe. and since it seems like on campuses games are like money to theives any and all collections seem up for grabs. if anything buy a cheap used system then if it gets stolen who cares or if you have to bring it buy something big heavy and secure that wont be easy to take or break into.

and dont go around advertising what youve got. i picked up the habit years ago that when i go shopping for games and such i always go with a backpack. that way when you leave the store and go home nobody knows what youve got. not to say you dont do that i think most people here have been stolen from on some level or another so you live and learn. sucks you cant just enjoy your shit these days without being paranoid.

The thing is, I don't think I'd be able to bring myself to leave my games and consoles at home. I mean, when I'm not hanging out with friends, I'm playing games. That's all I do. I can't imagine being without them for a whole semester.

I wish there was some way I could put them in a locked case that's bolted to the ground. That's the only way I'd feel my stuff is completely safe, but I don't think they'd take kindly to me bolting things to the ground inside the dorm rooms.

depending on how far you will be from home just take the ones you play the most or really like. once you get to your dorm and see how safe it is decide from there if youre comfortable with having your stuff there. if you have your own room then i guess youd be ok as long as you keep your stuff up and out of sight like in a trunk or something out of view. i think the long and short of it is to put your stuff up when youre not using it that way if someone does break into your room it wont just be there for taking.

one good show to give people ideas on hwo to keep their stuff safe is to catch a theif. id say a trunk with one of those top shelves you can pull out to put stuff under it would be a good investment especially if you can lock it. keep it covered and if possible in a closet and you should be cool. someone here mentioned a while back videotaping all your valuables which im gonna do soon myself just.

when i was in college it was during the snes genesis era. the ps1 was out but it was way too expensie and only one person had one in the whole dorm. i kept my genesis and games in a leather case in the uper part of my closet behind some clothes. also if youre going to take them to school find a way to label or mark your stuff so if someone tries to switch yours with theirs you can easily identify it.
