My Rez Story

This is the bragging forum, so here goes a little story about my search for Rez that started three weeks ago and culminated today.

Three weeks ago, for the hell of it, I stopped in the local Hollywood video that is near the mall. It has no Gamecrazy attached to it, but there is a Gamecrazy in the mall (Important for later in the story).

I start browsing the rental section and damn if I don't see 3 copies of Rez available for rental. I never see these for rental around here, much less 3 of them. In front of the 3 rental boxes was a perfect condition original case and inside was a never been touched instruction manual.

So, not expecting much, I take a copy of the rental box and the original box up to the counter and ask if they would consider selling me a copy as they have 3 rental copies and the game is quite old. They denied me, saying they couldn't do it, but to check back frequently as they put ex rentals up for sale often. I said thanks and put them back and left disappointed.

1 week ago I stop in again. Still no go, all 3 copies still there. I leave.

Yesterday, I stopped in again and go straight for where the rentals of Rez are. I see that 2 copies are gone and only one rental copy is left as well as the display case. I go through all their games for sale, and nothing. I'm pretty pissed because it looks like I may have missed them going up for sale. I overhear the girl working there saying they are sending a bunch of games over to the Gamecrazy in the mall. My interest peaks.

Today, I stopped in at the Gamecrazy at the mall and notice a shitload of old Hollywood Video ex rentals. I ask the guy working there to look up Rez to see if they show any in stock. He says there should be 2 and that I'll have to look through the unalphabitizd wall of games. I start the search and come across both ex rentals. No instructions, no original case.

I buy just one of them for $34.99, leaving the other one for someone else, as I'm only interested in playing it, not reselling to make a profit. The clerk asks me if I want him to resurface the disc (game doctor) as there was a tiny scratch on it. I quicky say no, that's okay man. Thinking if he gets within 5 feet of my disc with a game doctor I'll knock him out. Meanwhile he's commenting on how $34.99 is pretty expensive for a used game and asking me what kind of game Rez is and so on.

So I go out to the car, happy about my game, but being really pickey about completeness of my games, not satisfied just yet. I know there's a perfect original case and instructions just sitting there in Hollywood Video. I have to try to get them.

So I walk in there with my purchased copy of Rez, go grab the display case and go up to the counter. I ask the girl, who appeared to be in a bad mood when I first entered, so I wasn't expecting to pull this off, if there was any way I could get the display box and instructions for this game I just purchased at Gamecrazy. She kinda looks at me like there's no way in hell. Then she says, "Oh, you just want to switch inserts? Okay, no problem." And she takes out the original Rez insert and replaces the generic insert in my purchased game with it. Pushing my luck, I ask her if I can have the instructions too, she says, "Sure, no problem!" I was blown away. After thanking her multiple times, I walked out of there with a compete copy of Rez (a game I've been hunting down on again and off again for 2 years now) for $34.99.

Sorry about the long story, but I had to share. I rushed home and told my wife all about it and she kinda didn't grasp how happy I was or the coolness of what I had found, and I gotta tell someone. So yeah.

Cool...I probably would've just went to ebay instead of going through so much trouble. Nice work.

Ebay was a last resort for me. Ebay prices are insane for this game. Disc only goes for around $50-60 and complete copies can go for $80-$100+.

I told my wife that if the girl said no to letting me have the case, I was thinking about swiping it, half kidding of course. She wasn't too pleased with me. But it was just sitting there, they wouldn't have missed it. But I had to do it the correct way and ask. Stupid morals.
