N-Gage QD from N-Gage.com: negative $50 (with t-mobile plan) and 7 free games?

CAGiversary!
The other N-Gage thread kind of increased my interest in the system, but I've given up on finding it in a store. This thread is for anybody else in the same boat.

So I went to see how much it was on the official site. If you get it with the T-Mobile plan the phone is free plus you get a $50 mail-in rebate. Pretty good deal right there, and the T-Mobile plan isn't anything expensive, just the standard $40/mo plan. It automatically comes with 3 free EA Sports games. After I added that to my cart, it went to a screen of games to buy with it. At the top of this screen was a "bundle" deal -- the games pictured were Rifts, One, High Seize, and Asphalt 2. It said "Save $99.96 when you buy 4 games together" and it showed them being $0. Below that it said "Choose from additional games below. Remove any games you don't want when you reach the shopping cart. Below are the current 6 best sellers, click the "All Games" Tab to see all games available. The bundle coupon will apply automatically!"

So I clicked on buy for that, and when I got to my cart, the four games were in there, and it showed them being discounted to nothing at the bottom, but at the top it said "coupon is not valid". And it wouldn't let me proceed to check out.

Can anybody get this to work? If you can, this is a really good deal if you were planning on getting a cell plan with it already. The same stuff seems to apply for the Cingular plan, except it's $0 instead of -50 and the plan is more expensive. I couldn't find a way to buy an N-Gage without a plan on the site. Also, the site support seems to be busted - I get an internal server error when submitting the form.

I think its only supposed to come with those free EA games but I could be wrong.

That's how I got my N-Gage a year ago (almost) by purchasing it with the T-Mobile plan, but I went with the $29.99 a month one year commitment. I never had a cell phone before and wanted to get one. I figured for free and all the discounted games I would pick up the N-Gage. Come the end of the year I'm going to add a line and upgrade, unlock the n-gage, and be done with the system. For all the n-gage features and cheap games It's worth it. You just have to deal with the talking ampanada for a year.

I find it amazing that EA refused to support the Dreamcast, but they put out games for the n-gage, which even a blind amnesiac saw failing miserably.

I think there was a pretty righteous rivalry between Sega and EA. Don't know much about the details, but I know it involved a guy named "Trip Hawkins," which is pretty much as big of an asshole name as they come.

nah, Trip severed all ties with EA in 1994 to focus on 3DO. I think the reason EA didn't support DC was because they didn't want to compete with Sega Sports. They supported Saturn, and had the #2 games for the system in all sports except football. They probably swore off DC when they saw a preview of NFL 2k.

heh 2K sports rocked.

2K Sports showed EA it wasnt god anymore and it pissed them off. Hence the terrible sports situation we have this year with pricing and lack of competition.

Yeah, I've been working with getting the 4 free with a qd code to work for like 4 days now. I even called but the person couldn't find the flash on the front page that said 4 free, and couldn't get the coupon code to work. I finally gave up and ordered it without my 4 free games cause I have 33 games to play and I want to play them now!
