Nascar 2011 (360/PS3) - $39.99 - Amazon DOTD

A word of warning, the game in it's current state is a broken (mostly) unplayable mess. There's a patch in the works that should be out within the next few weeks that will hopefully fix the large majority of the issues. It also seems like they'll continue to improve/fix the game post patch as well.

Broken? Can you elaborate?

My brother has this game (PS3), we tried to race online one night and never could actually get into a race. A few times we would join the race and already somehow be almost a lap down, then other times would get kicked out of the race before it even loaded.

There's really a laundry list of what's wrong with the game. It's probably easier to point you to the patch thread on the official forums. Many of these problems combined make the game unplayable, especially if you have a wheel.

http://forums.eutechnyx.com/threads/8137-Patch-2-Fix-List-and-Status-(Updated-04-18-11)

In my opinion until they address the wheel issues, lack of caution flags and the way overdone drafting effect, the game isn't worth playing. Then there's online, which I've yet to play but from what I've heard it doesn't really work at all.

Yeah - I have heard NOTHING good about this game - other than from the developers in their forums on the web site talking about how hard they worked and that the game isn't really *that* bad.

I am a huge NASCAR fan, but I am staying clear from this burning dirigible until they fix some stuff and prove that they can do it successfully. Save your $40 - I see this being $20 in a month or two.

Multiplayer is evidently unplayable and I don't think the single player is much of an improvement.

I also heard bad things about this game. Things like caution flags not coming out until you actually flip. Also not being realistic and when you can actually join an online race, people race like 2 year olds.

You have to give them credit on this patch though, if you look at the list of things that they tackled, it's pretty impressive how much effort they're putting in to get the game right.

They're also adding a big (and free) DLC pack in the next month or so where they will have the new surface at Daytona and all of the 2011 schedule events.

The game isn't great right now, but with the work they're putting in, it has the potential of being a hell of a lot better.

The flipside of that argument is that if the game wasn't done, it shouldn't have been released yet.

I haven't played a Nascar game since 2005 (was a gift), and I am a Nascar fan. It's sad to see this, but maybe at $15 if all the bugs are fixed.

Amen. Sick to death of broken games being released, with the idea that they will fix the game later IF someone complains.

I agree, but they're not abandoning the people who did give the game a chance, and at least they're being up front about what they are fixing.

It's not good that the game was released with issues, but they are being pretty open about the issues, unlike a lot of other developers.

Other than censoring their message boards to get rid of a lot of the complaints, having their own people talking up the game like the issues are minor and not actually having fixed anything right now... Holy shit - is this company run by Barrack Obama??????? :D

Good grief, you have to take a discussion about how a developer is handling their game and throw in your own political views?

I guess we're done in this thread.

It could just be they didn't have enough time. Publishers have schedules where they need games out and sometimes development studios can't handle the demand. Either way I commend them for saying that yes they did screw up but they plan to fix it.

That was a joke. Man up. Why must everyone be so damn touchy about everything?

I am sick of this. Back in the 90s companies either released the finished game, or delayed until they could fix it. There was no updating via a patch through the internet.

companies these days are just lazy, and we as customers should demand better.

And I would assume that the push was to get it out around Daytona... but it's pretty inexcusable to ship NASCAR "2011" with all the 2010 cars, schedules and sponsors - and to have it completely broken, at that...

I actually git the opportunity to review this game for the site I write for, which is under my name if you want to see it.

I had fun with the game, honestly. $40 is a good new price for NASCAR diehards and they are going to update the game for this season here in the coming months. I will boot my copy back up after the patch so I can experience the online the way it was meant to.

Well one problem is their target audience. I am assuming they would allow this piece of trash to be released if they knew most of their target audience would not be smart enough to realize how bad this game is. Then again, I been to Nascar races so I come from experience on that one .

All the publisher cares about is money. Sometimes Application Development while fun, can also bring a lot of stress with deadlines and stuff.

I played Nascar 2011 at my friends and wow is it bad.... I preordered homefront cause of some reason i can not say. I spent a week 80% of the time trying to join friends games or all connecting in a lobby but most of us do not get in and we keep retrying.

The sad part is they are getting away with us beta well i should say alpha testing these games for free. I posted how the challenge reset happens on the homefront forums and all i got was people bashing me. I replicated the reset 5 times and friends got reset and told me the method i found out is how they got reset. I never got a thank you or replies to my emails about it. These companies act like they are so poor now they can not take the time to test games anymore in a more complex testing phase. I love beta testing games and that is supposed to help companies. But when i pay full price on preorder game i do not expect a game to play worse then a beta form of it.

This will keep happening it is a big thing now for companies to do this. They rush them to save money and time and think it is ok to just update them later. I am shocked companies are not getting class actions on them like MS had with there faulty consoles. The only way things will change is when enough of us hold off buying stuff until we know they are playable. It does not hurt to post how bad a game is cause of what they are doing. They will sooner or later notice the drop in sales and will have to start doing what they used to do. If you notice so many games are so broken even when they do a long beta testing of them.

All i know is i will cut my preorder % to about 10-15% now. I can not stand this stuff anymore. They also got all these codes to play online now so renting first is a joke... They are really working us and setting up a nice method of doing it. They start to attack the used game stuff then the unfinished games that they know will need patches big time after launch.

I do hope more people speak up and help stop this before it gets worse. I know EA is long gone but these other companies are following behind them now. I just want a playable game and not wait 1-3 months for fixes to play a game. Do not get me started on test drive unlimited 2 with all the people that got there save data gone. That game has so much stuff to do and wow did that company loose so many gamers for that game. It is slowly losing even more people each day still. The casino dlc is still not fully working i want my roulette achievement dangit.

Sorry for the long and really bad typing skills i am sick and laying in bed and sick of sleeping.
