Nasty Surprise for Wii/PS3 buyers at Fry's?

nirv

CAGiversary!
Apparently, en employee at Fry's had this to say. If anyone can confirm this or is employed at Fry's, let us know.

"I work in the software department (console games) at Fry's electronics. Today, my supervisor informed me that we would not be allowing anyone to purchase a PS3 without also purchasing 8 games. What a launch day surprise, right? Show up, wait in line for hours and hours, run into the store, and THEN find out that, sorry, we forgot to tell you, but you'll need to buy 8 games if you want the console."

Same deal for Wii, says the writer, only it'll be five games instead of eight. Small consolation. We'll see what happens, but if you were planning on camping a Fry's, you might want to do some more investigating into your store's situation.
Thats crazy...but there arent any good launch games for both systems tho...
You mean for the ps3 right?

Another retail bundle at launch. Gosh. Shocking news.

If you cannot afford to buy big don't plan on buying at all for while. The stores know they have an item in short supply with high demand and they're damned well going to make the most of it.

Consider though, this makes these machines less likely to end up on Ebay at triple or quadruple markups.

I don't believe it. It's just a rumor and i imagine it's gonna stay that way. Seems a little too much to be real. If it is though, then god damn.

...and? You can return all of these games as long as they are unopened. Its not one giant SKU...is it? Just buy it with a Credit Card to get you're ass covered.

Didn't Best Buy get sued over forced bundles from the 360 launch?

Do you know what site you at?

I don't think you can sue them because you don't want to buy their bundle, BB got in trouble because they advertised the 360 alone for $399.99 and some stores only sold it in bundles(bait and switch)

$480 in games just to get the chance to buy a game is ridiculous from a retail store. This is the type of thing that makes me not feel bad about raping them with mistyped coupons or ads

I believe this is probably true, since when the nintendo ds came out they forced you to buy either 2 or 3 games with the system or they would not sell one to you.

Shitty I know, but you can just return the games. At least thats what I did with the DS.

Also if they will not let you return the games, there is always ebay.

Might lose a couple dollars, but this actually makes me happy since I believe most people will not pick it up at Frys then which in turn, I will be able to hopefully grab one there when the doors open.

I have good reason to believe that people, who don't even work in these stores, many times say things like this to discourage potential line ups so that it's easier for them to get one for themselves. I know it sounds far fetched, but word on the internet spreads like wildfire if they spread it in just a few major forums.

Honestly, I wouldn't believe this until we had solid proof. Or just call and ask. If they say they will or decline to answer, then you'll know there might be some truth to it. It's against the law to force people to buy something without giving them a discount or the option to buy the items individually.

I suppose a check is an alternate option, but it'd be crazy to roll up with $1200 in cash.
