Need advice about some Canadian f*cker who ripped me off on TGN

I bought a copy of Paper Mario and a couple others from this kid in Beaumont, Alberta on TGN over 3 and a half months ago, and he never sent it out. I have his address and phone number, and the phone number of Beaumont's police department. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what legal recourse I have, if any, in the event that the police do not want to help and his parents turn out not to care. I'm not familiar with Canadian laws regarding international mail fraud, so if anyone can help me out, if will be much appreciated.

Why don't you call the Polce department, since you have the number? They can probably help you, or at least tell you what Canadian agency to contact. I say get the little bastard.

3 1/2 months! Damn that bites, that must have been an expensive purchase, was this a newer trader or someone established? I'd hate to have him burning others on that site.

I was burned on TGN by a Canadian trader over a year ago who had over 30 poitive trades. I filed a claim through the postal service, 3 months after it happened and got a letter 3 months after that saying that some Canadian Agency was taking over the case but never heard anything after that. I did have his phone number and called a few times but never got a answer.

Crappy thing about mailing to and from Canada is you can't get tracking or DC unless you go with uber-expensive mailing options.

I just turned down a pretty good trade offered to me from a Canuck, because I didn't want to deal with that.

Is he claiming he sent it and it must have been lost in the mail? If he sticks to that story I'm not sure you'll be able to get any recourse.

Did you pay with PayPal or with a money order? I'm not sure what PayPal's protection is for non eBay sales, but if you paid with them I'd at least contact them about filing a dispute.

It was only $30 Paypal, so it's not too big a deal. However, I've never let anyone get away with ripping me off, and I'm kinda kicking myself in the head for agreeing to pay first when the guy lives in Canada. He said he needed the Paypal to pay for an auction. He had 5 feedback, and I only had a few myself (on TGN), so I didn't mind too much. He never claimed that he had sent. He told me over and over that he just hadn't had the chance to send it, but that he had the package ready to go. I called his house once after about a month and a half (I'm usually pretty patient), told him he needed to send it out immediately, and then just plain forgot about it for a couple of months. Paypal will not do anything because it was a non-eBay transaction and I didn't want to pay a fee for their "satisfaction guarantee" fraud program.

It's 2am here right now, and probably later where he's at (I confess I'm not very familiar with Candian geography), and I'm wondering whether it's a good idea to call his house and wake up his parents.

Just so nobody makes the mistake of trading with this guy, his username is Soulacide. Also, I don't know if TGN has anything other than feedback to report someone ripping you off, but if they do please let me know. I don't think he'll be back, though. He hasn't been on since early December, I think.

As for trading with Canadians, I'm usually pretty trusting, and since I usually do most of my trades here or on GTZ (both places where I have lots of feedback), I can ask the other party to ship first if they aren't well-established.

Sucks that PayPal won't do anything for you. "The safe way to pay" indeed.

Calling his parents might not be a terrible idea. However, I would suggest calling them at a normal hour and politely explaining the entire situation. You want them on your side, not pissed off with you from the get go. I know if someone called my parents and calmly explained this situation, they would promptly beat my ass (just after forcing me to refund you your money).

You can contact TGN's admins about the situation, but I don't know what they'd really do for you.

The 'good' thing is he doesn't appear to be a lying scammer. At least he's not falsely claiming he sent it. I'd try calling him directly and ask him to immediately refund your money. If he is hesitant, talk to his parents or just start with his parents at this point.

I had a similar thing happen to me with a Canuck. Over a year ago, I bought 2 copies of Steel Battalion from a dude in Canada on ebay. $500 bucks total. He never sent them out. Swore up a nd down that he did and finally after 3 months he sent me a tracking number. Turned out to be bogus. I called him several times and he answered but would only speak in French. I only got $250 back because I used my credit card to pay for one and I disputed the charge. It took about 6 months to get it back. Ebay, Square Trade and Paypal would not help me with the other $250 since I used my bankcard. I don't even want to tell you how long it took me to get the negative feedback he left for me off my profile. He lived about 5 hours from me, so I was going to take a ride to Canada, kick his door down and take what was rightfully mine.
Also, I'm still waiting for DVDSoon.com to send me my Zelda: Four Swords. My friend agreed to order it if I went halves with him, and sure enough he got his copy that was regular price. WTF? They haven't answered my emails.
I'm telling you. Stay away from Canadians. They all hate us anyway.

And of course we can judge millions of people based on the actions of a few.

At TGN, PM the user "Indy".. he's the owner.. he helped get my ball rolling with a bad trader (Branks) and hopefully he gets the ball rolling on yours.

No, but you could realize that it's a pain to trade with people in Canada and simply not deal with the hassle, that's what I do. With the time it takes now to ship things and the added hastle of not getting delivery confirmation unless I want to pay significantly more, I just don't see it as worth the hastle.

Now, now. I didn't say that. I was just sharing my expirience. Obviously you haven't been to Canada and don't watch the World News Network. Trust me, they hate us.

Thank you Zion. I appreciate the backup. Any ways, what are those things called in your avatar. I know they are from Dr. Who. Awesome show. I wish they would release it on DVD. I liked his time warp phone booth and his robotic dog was cool.

Agreed, I have been to canada 12 timesi nmy life, everytime at least 5 moer people hate me because im American.

Well, I think there's a big misconception that we're all redneck, gun-toting, overall wearing, war loving, Bush supporters. I can't blame them. Anyway, if someone screwed me I'd personally spend the money to go to there house, and take back my shit. I don't even care if they screwed me for a penny, and the trip cost me $500. No one steals from me, and gets away with it if I can help it.

I dont see why someone would want to do business with someone in another country to begin with, your just setting yourself up for disappointment.

That's the problem with blanket statements like "They hate us all" and the standard American is a Nascar loving, Jesus Hugging, Violent Fool, etc. Just sends everything into a circle as people get angrier and angrier when they get lumped into a group they don't belong to. There's shitty people on both sides of the border.

I've been to canada over 10 times and lived there for about 6 months, and I've never had anyone hate me or even be rude when they found out I was american. If anything it leads to more conversation. Many of them just don't like our government, they don't have a problem with americans (though I've met my share of bush supporters here).

paypal is an assbitch about things. I'v been burned many times from selling on ebay. People wait a few weeks to a couple months, then file a chargeback. even supplying DC and insruance numbers, paypal still refunds them and damages your account for it, plus a 10 doller fee. F*ck paypal dry in the ass w/ a rusty spork!
