I just picked up today a xbox 360 gears of war console with two controllers. The condition is good with light scratches when looking closely with light. Does not come with power supply. I plug it in and everything works fine. It makes load noise when a disc is inside or when playing by disc. Also, half of the xbox 360 seal is broken, but the ssn# matches to the console and yes I connected to xbox live. Can anyone tell me if the noise is normal or is that a hidden sign that something maybe wrong? Is there a reason why someone would open the xbox console? Again, I'm able to get on xbox live. I got it for $75. Not sure how I did or if I got rip off. I was going to give this to someone that is 17 with asperger's

The disk drive and fans on these things are pretty noisey.  Exessive noise maybe the drive unit failing. The broken seal could have been an attempt to fix it.  If it works just give it to him.  If it dies no biggie.

Just make sure the power supply is the right one for that console.  They had changed them so much you have to be careful.

I'm using a 120w power supply from those 4gb slim console. I was wondering why they were selling it for $75 but it does work fine and on xbox live 48 hrs

Honestly the person might not have known what they had and sold it cheap. I have not checked eBay but I'm sure the Gears ones go for more then 75.

If it does work well then you got a heck of a deal. The first gen 360 models were pretty noisy. The newer slim versions (there were two of them) were less so but still had a little hum while the disk played.

I hope that it holds up and I wish you the best my friend.

I tested it and works fine. It does a hum sound that is pretty load when putting a disc in, and running game from disc. Since i wasnt sure if it was the fan or drive, i installed the game onto the hard drive. the game did load load at first, but when i play online game is running on hard drive and makes no sound. So does that mean the drive will go bad soon?

If you installed the game on the hard drive it should be even quieter. That is a good thing. The game is loading from the hard drive which puts less strain on the disk drive which means the system will last a bit longer (as far as the disk drive is concerned).

I believe, from what all you have said, that you came upon a great deal my man. Seems to not be a problem. The drive should be fine, I wouldn't worry.

The serial number being torn as said above could have been someone trying to open it up to modify the insides. Sometimes if the system has suffered the RROD (red ring of doom) it can be fixed by opening the system up and replacing the heat sinks). These may or may not have been the case or as I mentioned it could have been a modification attempt. The red ring problem was more on the first generation fat 360 models though.

I'm no expert but I would wager the 360 is fine to give as a gift, and you got a bang up deal as well. The kid should be happy as I know I would be with it.

Hope this helps some and happy holidays. :)
