Just scored a new Yamaha v2600 and was looking to update my surround sound speakers. I have auditioned a good deal of stuff and I am really liking the Athenas for the price and overall quality. They have made Polk, Infinity, Klipsch, and of course B(L)ose sound like total ass. Only speakers that cost way more than I want to spend are what I find to have a noticeable jump in quality. Does anybody here have any of the following: pair of Atehna AS f2.2's, AS c1.2, and 2 pair of AS b2.2's they would want to part with? Or anybody know of a site aside from Audioadvisor or Onecall that has good deals on them? Some people have luck getting em at Best Buy because they have been a dropped line and they don't list the high end stuff on their site anymore, but all the ones around my area have been sold out of what I want. I am also open to another plan. If you are a home theater junkie and know your Best Buy has what I am looking for, I will paypal you the cost of speakers and extra cash for your time + calculated shipping to get them for me. I will only do this if you have a good deal of feedback on this site. Anybody that can help in any way is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I wish I could afford Yamahas... but I blew most of the money I was saving up for a receiver on these KLH floor speakers. Not high quality stuff like you're looking for but they've got 12" woofers for that muddy, dorm room shaking bass and settle for a Panasonic or Pioneer receiver.:p

As for the speakers, have you checked eBay? If you can find used speakers from a regular well rated seller (NOT those eBay stores, bulk sellers, discount sellers or other sellers who sell massive amounts of stuff) for a decent amount. Shipping is what's usually killer but if you find someone within driving distance, you can save a ton of money.

Ugamer_X: looking to spend around a grand. Not too much more.

Vinny: KLH 9250's were pretty good for floor speakers back in the day. They were loud but muddy, like you said. I am guessing that's what you got? I have been looking on ebay for a while trying to get these Athena's with no luck. Same guy always selling open box first generation versions.

spaz, that "htib" stuff usually sounds like poo; but on the plus side it's much cheaper than doing a whole setup.

outpost runs clearances on their Polk r50/15/30 sets every now and then, check fatwallet for updates, these are also ymmv @ fry's.

Bestbuy's selection is over-priced and under-whelming so stay away. Also, ultimate electronics selection seems a bit over-priced IMO.

The athena as-p4000 is a cool little sub as is the dayton 10 or 12"; these are usually 150-100 usually shipped free when they go on sale.

I have an athena as-b2.2 single speaker I'm trying to sell to someone who wants a good center speaker (because that's what the other one will be doing!) Let me know if you're interested.
