Need help with overclocking cpu

Well i need some help and i thought i would throw this out on here before going to toms hardware forums..

I recently purchasef the amd opteron 165 because of the reviews on newegg and ppl are saying its an amazing overclocker.. i also didnt want to fully upgrade my system and had wanted an x2 but ppl said may as well get this.. cheap

I have been able to overclock in the past but i dont have too much knowledge on the subject besides knowing that raising the fsb overclocks the cpu.

What i need help is with understanding how memory needs to be tweaked to allow further overclocking. i hear people talk about dividers etc? also messing with voltage?

On stock air and just setting the fsb at 220 ( around that max it will go before windows will not boot right) im able to get to round 2.0 ghz.


People are saying that they can get up to 2.7 on stock air and i can only get to 2.0?

Im kind of regretting the purchase now since my old a64 3700 was getting better scores in pc mark...


any suggestions?

I wouldnt suggest going any further with the knowledge you have, i would go to the ocforums.com they offer ALOT of help dealing with everything overclocking, sorry i dont know enough to help you...

Yes, upping your FSB also ups you memory FSB, your HT, and your PCI/PCIe slot frequencies.

Basically, the higher your FSB... the more stress memory feels and your PCI/PCIe devices could cause instabilities due to the change in frequency.

I could do a short and simple write up but I don't have time due to finals. Maybe next week.
