I've found a good deal on Ebay. Several UK sellers have a 3 DVD boxset of Stephen King's Children of the Corn 1, 2, and 3 for less than $10 before shipping. Can these be viewed on an unmodded U.S. Magnavox DVD player? If I purchased the boxset, could I make a legal, region-free back up and watch it? What are my options? Thanks for any help.

Many of the lower tier DVD players (usually the rebadged Funai made in China ones-- which your Magnavox could very likely be) can convert PAL to NTSC. Videohelp.com has a VERY comprehensive guide under "DVD Hacks", you can search for your specific model number and see if there's a hack and what it's capable of doing.

There are quite a few sub-$50 (and even sub-$30) DVD players that can do this, they won't be the greatest quality but it's really worth investing in a multi-region player if you have the slightest interest in foreign stuff...

There is also a chance the DVDs are in NTSC-- odd, I know, but a lot of music DVDs from the UK are so weirder things can happen. You could rip it on a computer and reburn as a region free disc that would work on anything. Depending on the age of the discs, hunting down an old copy of DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink might be all you need, if they're newer with more complicated copy protection, you might need to look into AnyDVD (costly but amazingly powerful) or DVDFab. Giveawayoftheday.com occasionally gives away DVDFab tools for free...
