Need help with Yellow Dog

I have no clue how to operate Linux. I just want to use my PS3 to watch videos and I have alot of questions:

1. I downloaded a bin file of Real Player, but how do I install it?

2. How do I install VLC? Its website doesn't have a YDL version.

3. How do I make myself the owner so I can edit the system files? I need to set the default resolution to 1080p.

4. How do I even change the reso to 1080p without messing with the system files?

Ok, I took care of those problems. But new problems arose:

1. My display is 1080p now, but how do I make it fit the screen? Right now it has black borders around the screen.

2. I installed Realplayer, but it won't start. Anyone have a solution to that, or know of any other progs that play rmvb files?
