New Playstation 3 Advice, getting rid of old one

CAGiversary!
Hey guys.

Recently, my ps3 has started acting up. I am getting error 800..105 or something. the error is about blu ray lenses and ps3 file system corruption, and ps3 don't read any games due to this. I have fixed the error by replacing corrupted file system. But since then, my ps3 is not the same, its slow, and skips alot while browsing through ps3. But most of all, the game sound skips while I play. I did research, and these are just the bad signs that my ps3 will/can run into bigger issues in the future.
So I want to trade it in, as its working, and get a new one. Is this a good time to do so? there are rumors that there might be a new slim model coming. Should I wait? I am looking at 320gb model for $300. i ll put my trade in credit towards that.

How much is 120gb slim model at GameStop? Its $110 to $130 at Amazon, but Amazon requires all cables, controllers, and box, manuels. Does GameStop require all that stuff.

I am not sure if I should wait til black friday, what if my ps3 stops reading disks completely, and I won't be able to trade in at all.
any advice will be helpful!!

Gamestop will want a controller, a/v cable, and, of course, the unit. If it's really beat up or if it errors while they are checking it out, they will hit you with a refurbishment fee.

I wouldn't wait. Gamestop usually runs hardware deals, just keep an eye out in the Gamestop TIV thread for a good deal and get rid of it. They are running a pretty decent summer bundle deal on a new PS3 slim with a game or two.

I would just wait for the new announcement of the newest models to see what they are.
And/or wait for black friday for the best deals. However, if there is also a price drop between now and then your resell price would be lower as well.

The Amazon "like new" trade in price is 130. Which I guess is a pretty good deal.
However, You would need the box, manual, and everything else and it actually has to be in very good condition to get that 130 price.

The next price drop is "good" condition at 110.50. This is probably more of what you would get for yours.. IF yours actually works when they test it out.

The issue may just be the hdd, which could just be replaced pretty cheap (around 60dollars for a 320gb hdd)

thanks, will trade it in at amazon for 130, or 110. My ps3 works, but after an hour of gaming it usually freezes, or crashs. when u power up again, it won't read the disk, so i'd have to replace the corrupted memory or whatever. plus its 120gb, and i was running out of space, so trading in, and getting new one is the solution.

Darn it, There was a deal where you can get PS3 for $150 using Power Up Rewards. My PS3 had YLOD for the first time a few weeks ago, so i worked on hairdryer method and then fixed the YLOD without voiding the warranty sticker and traded it in. I didn't want risk it even it was the first time and there was a guarantee that it will happen again whether 2 weeks from now or 5 months later. It was about 4-5 years old and wasn't worth the time to mess around. Gamestop really reviewed it, probably play a game or so for 10-15 minutes to be sure nothing is wrong. I got the 320 Slim MW bundle. Though there is a new rumor for a new Slim, which is probably thinner or probably even more efficient. You know it may be possible your error is with hard drive going bad. Sell it while it still have value.

A HDD replacement would solve the space issue and do so cheaper than buying a new console. Not to mention replacement lenses aren't that bad as far as price goes if I remember correctly.

But yeah, you're definitely going to need one of the original composite cables, a power cable and a controller for the system even if you wanna trade it into GS.

Here's the GS trade value thread for you to check their values for the systems: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317063

thanks its $96 at gamestop right now. Really appeals to me. Won't buy a new system at gamestop though, buying at amazon saves me about $30 in taxes. looks like i ll just trade it at gamestop, b/c am missing few manuels and stuff, and amazon want all original packaging. my original controller is messed up though, i bought a silver one a year ago.

You're trying to trade in a fat model PS3, right? I was gonna say that if you can wait to trade in the system maybe you can find someone on here selling a SixAxis only controller instead of giving GS the silver Dual Shock 3.

That's what I did when I sold them my 40gb in 2010. I traded my buddies' bro-in-law and sister for their SixAxis from their 40gb since I had traded mine in when I got the Dual Shock 3 when it first came out.

I figured why give GS the added value of a DS 3 when I should only give them what's required.;)

my controller is messed uo, worn out, and it shows, but it works. the charge thing is very loose. But I know gamestop will take it. also am trading in slim 120gb model. I bought it when it was first announced in 2009.

I had one of those, which I sold to my buddy for $100 last year or so. I too bought it right when it launched by trading in my 40gb fat model system and a ton of games.

Just got back from gamestop, traded in my PS3, and some Games. I got $207 trade in credit.
Here is a list, it includes all the trade in bonuses gamestop was offering.

Playstation 3 - 120GB Slim Model - $100
Max Payne 3 - $35
COD MW3 - $22.50
SSX - $24 (got it for $7.50 at BB, lol)
AC Revelations - $16
Crysis 2 - $9.60

I got little over $207. which is great, now I can buy a new PS3 for less than $100 out of my pocket.
WHat you think? Did I make a good deal? or gamestop ripped me off?? remember, my PS3 was bout to go out.
