Newegg St Patty's Day Sale 79.99 Free Ship! WD Scorpio Black 320GB 7200 RPM

Great going with the green text... i love it.. very festive!

This isn't too bad of a deal... but i think that newegg is hyping it more than it should be..

From what I understand the PS3 doesn't benefit from anything above 5400RPM drives, and in fact the extra head generated from 7200+ drives may cause issues. Personally I've had my eye set on Samsung M6 for a while.

Although if you do want do go with a 7200 for your laptop (or still even your ps3) this is still a really great deal.
from what i hear 5400RPM drives work best for PS3.
Yeah, I've heard that as well. Seems to be a mixed bag on it though. Some people on the newegg review claim the 7200 was golden for them and they didn't have any heat issues, speed was slightly better, quieter, etc.

I would think the speed would be negligible. I did notice that the parts and labor were actually 5 year warranties rather than 3, if anyone cares about that....

I just upgraded my ps3 with a Hitachi 320gb, 7200 speed drive. I got mine for $55 shipped ($75 with $20 mir). No heat or noise issues so far. There's a thread in here somewhere, I think this deal is still acive in some form from Zip Zoom Fly, rebate expires 03/28, but they sometimes extend it.

My biggest advice - get the right screwdriver (No. 0 size) or you will have a hell of a time with the screws. The upgrade process couldn't be simpler and only took 5 minutes. The backup and restore process was 2 hours each way though with an external hdd.

Great if you download a lot of demos and videos. Currently have over 30 demos and still 220gb free, that should last a while. Thank god for CAG!

I did notice faster load times (just slightly) when launching the PSN game Crash Commando with the new hard drive.

CC is a fantastic pickup BTW, worth many more times than the 9.99 price. Super fun and addictive, I've put more hours into it than all other games combined. And we need more online players, so make sure you download it after you upgrade.
