After I downloaded the update, I tried my original benchmark for my 4GB card trick. I pulled those results down awhile ago, since it seemed to distract everyone from the real function of my "hack". So, as a refresher:

Original Wii to SD transfer times with 4GB card
--------------------------------------------
Mega Man 9 - 66 Blocks -
4GB SD transfer time: 18 sec

Sin & Punishment - 287 Blocks -
4GB SD transfer time: 1min 16sec

NEW Wii to SD transfer times with 4GB card
---------------------------------------------
Mega Man 9 - 66 Blocks -
4GB SD transfer time: 5 sec

Sin & Punishment - 287 Blocks -
4GB SD transfer time: 16 sec

:applause::applause:

Now, I would assume that transfer times for all cards have increased across the board, but I can only vouch for my card. I will update my 4gb card thread with this info shortly.

Anyone else notice improved transfer times?

I heard this as well. I wonder what exactly Nintendo did to the firmware's code to make such a significant change? Now, if SDHC support was added, I'd be really happy!

It's speculated that they both optimized the SD card bus transfer and also removed a few layers of DRM from running. Both of these things would help make it faster.

Sadly, it still does not match what the homebrew community has accomplished, and this is from people who don't even have access to design documents.

HB has added this as well. So Nintendo theoretically could, but it depends on a few factors. Since Wiis began manufacturing shortly before SDHC was a new standard, there's a chance that older/launch machines won't be able to have the functionality included. If there's ever been any revisions to the SD card slot, then there's a chance that the userbase gets splits.

'Course, that's just my rabid speculation - you'd need to talk to the people who actually fool around with this stuff to get a better answer.
