Looks like all/most of the Capcom 3DS and WiiU titles are $2.99 right now including some Wii titles like Zack & Wiki and Umbrella Chronicles.

I'm supremely out of the loop so can someone catch me up? Will wii / 3/2ds games still be playable and downloadable after the shutdown or is it the case where if it's not downloaded too bad? Highly considering some 3ds games and maybe umbrella chronicles but kinda depends on how accessible they'll be. $3 is a great price for the ace attorney trilogy and the re games there so def gonna pick em up just curious if I need to get an SD card to install them all now or if I'll be good as long as I buy them now.

Any other major gems worth picking up? Ive never played a monster hunter game so maybe one of them? Or anything else in general I should watch for?

This is going to be the first movie I’ll watch in almost 3 years. Last one I saw was the first Sonic lol. Can’t wait, it looks like such perfect nostalgia porn.

-As of right now, the shutdown is for the PURCHASE of said games. You can still download the games as long as it's in your account and as long as the servers are still up. As far as I know, there are no constant online checks, so play them offline as much as you want. Pretty much, you download it, it's yours.

-You can just buy as much as you want on the webpage version of the eShop. If you don't have room for it, it'll just remain in your account, just access the eShop on your 3DS at your convenience, and select redownload the software. IIRC, if you buy it on the 3DS proper, they will stop you from buying it if you're low on space.

-Played through a fair bit of MH4 and MHGenerations, I'll choose Generations, it's like a greatest hits of sorts. Though MH4 has a decent story mode IIRC.

For Pokémon fans, make sure to download the Sun/Moon demo on 3DS as it’s currently the only way to obtain Ash Greninja.

For $3, there’s also Pokemon Dream Radar, which is the only way to get several Pokemon including Thunderus and Tornadus in Black/White V2 without trading.

It’s probably the obvious one, but make sure to get Bank and Transporter in order to move Pokemon to home for free after March 27th.

Shovel Knight Treasure Trove (3DS) for $4.49 is an amazing deal if you don't already have it.  Includes the main game and all the expansions.  The 3D in the game looks great too.

All of the current 3DS deals right now and a lot are ending at the end of the month:

If you want an indie 2.5D platformer that often leads to copious amounts of swearing at the difficulty level, Mutant Mudds is one of the sale titles. Fun game, I just couldn't play it when my old roommate's preschooler was within earshot. Didn't want to add gamer rage to his vocabulary.

Part of me wants to get all of the Phoenix Wright titles for the 3DS, but I have no idea why.
Probably because 2 of them are exclusive to the 3DS right now and have fun characters and cool visual novel action? I'm guessing eventually these 2 exclusives will come to other consoles, but who knows if or when.

I’m not going crazy buying 3DS or Wii U games. These companies will happily port, remaster, remake whatever anything with potential profit in the future. No FOMO here.

It's worth it for some games for sure. 3DS has so many like say Shin Megami Tensei games, that could be stuck on the system for a while. I collected the RPGs while the 3DS was alive for the most part, so I don't have to pay out the wazoo for some physical copies now. I also took advantage when there was buy 2 get one free for 3DS titles usually first party and good from like Best Buy. If anyone has any questions if a game is worth it (probably RPG as I played a decent amount), I'll say if it was good for sure. I'm glad some like Stella Glow are getting praise now when I enjoyed it on release and thought it was great other than the arbitrary time spent mechanism. It's bull and makes it to where you have to play it again to get endings with some of the characters. Just a great game though.

As a big Fist of the North Star fan I was cautiously optimistic for the Fitness Boxing game. It's somehow worse than I thought possible. I'll be amazed if someone tells me the game was, in fact, dubbed by humans and not AI. Every line sounds so stilted and unsure that it reminds me of my days in public school.

I was initially excited for the game when I saw it on the Nintendo Direct, but then I saw it was T rated and my interest died from there. It's not Fist of the North Star unless it's just heads and bodies exploding left and right, otherwise why even use the license?

You can get them on mobile which might make future ports to other platforms even more likely. Capcom has been pretty good about re-releasing games lately, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time

And the 3DS has a unique way of playing games that is kinda hard to replicate, especially if the second screen is used in a meaningful and convenient way. Like for the DS version of The Urbz, the touch screen basically replaced the pause screen from the GBA version. So that means while your Sim is sleeping, you can manage and review some other things.

Sometimes it's the presentation too, which is one of the reasons why I got all the Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice Ace Attorney games on 3DS. I hope Atlus and a couple others would go on sale too. Would be interested in one of the Etrian Odyssey titles (not sure if the HD remasters are the originals or the Untold versions), and the Picross E titles as well.

I wish the NSO vouchers included "with DLC" bundles. I would finally have to break down and get FE:3 Houses at that point. Using the first one to pre-order Tears of the Kingdom was a no brainer.

Thanks Frisky! Grabbed SSFIV and the Mega Man collection! I also picked up Fragrant Story just because I like that the developer is pushing out new content the late in the game.
Tempted to grab Phoenix Wright vs Layton even though it’s not on sale. I wish all the 3ds Layton games would go on sale for the new release.

100% agreed. Some games like Etrian Odyssey (with the map on one screen) or the Ace Attorney games use both screens well. I will add some games like Professor Layton where you could draw out your clues on the bottom screen. This is the reason the Katrielle Layton game is harder to play on the Switch. Also the 3DS along with the Vita where the last systems that had good touch screens. The Switch one is near terrible and ones like the PS5 touchpad on the controller are gimmicky IMHO, so games that like the touch screen are much better to play on the systems. This is similar to the WiiU as well.

If you want a recommended list of games (mainly RPGS but a few others) here is a quickly thought of list by myself:

1. All Shin Megami Tensei games (Devil Survivor 1/2, SMTV 4/Apocalypse, Soul Hackers, Strange Journey)

2. Kirby games Planet Robobot was amazing, Epic Yarn was great, Triple Deluxe was good

3. Legend of Zelda games Majora's Mask (best way to play this), Ocarina of Time, A Link Between Worlds

4. Radiant Historia

5. Stella Glow

6. Layton games (Azran Legacy, Miracle Mask, vs. Ace Attorney)

7. Ace Attorney games (Trilogy, Dual Destinies, Spirit of Justice)

8. Dragon Quest 7/8 (best way to play 7 hands down)

9. Mario 3D Land

10. Mario & Luigi games (Dream Team is OK, Superstar Saga remake is good and Bowser's Inside Story is unnecessary but nice)

11. Etrian Odyssey Games especially 4. (4, 5, Nexus, Untold 1/2)

12. Persona Q 1/2 (decent games although I prefer the Etrian games)

13. Some Eshop only games (Weapon Shop de Omasse, Crimson Shroud, Attack of the Friday Monsters, Liberation Maiden)

14. Youkai Watch games especially 2 Psychic and 3

15. Fantasy Life

16. STORY OF SEASONS: Trio of Towns was the best Story of Seasons game on the 3DS

17. Donkey Kong Country Returns

18. Luigi's Mansion 1 and especially Dark Moon

19. Kid Icarus Uprising (didn't play enough)

20. Picross 3D Round 2 (best Picross game on the 3DS)

Think I'm done with Wii U eShop. Only found three games with DLC that were missing from the 'Games with DLC' section of the eShop.

1. Breath of the Wild (kinda a big one to leave off such a list)

2. LEGO Dimensions (it's all free DLC but requires the physical toys)

3. SDK Paint (not gonna buy that to see if DLC is in-game only)

Then some were on the 'Games with DLC' section but didn't have any visible DLC in the eShop like Bit.Trip Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien. I have that game but saw no DLC from the in-game menus either so no clue what's up.

With the 3ds/Wii U are Thursday’s the only day I should expect new sales to start? I don’t expect any 1st party sales but I am hoping for maybe sega or Altus still.

Fantastic list, here's a few more titles you should peak:

  1. BOXBOY! Series
  2. Culdcept Revolt
  3. Ever Oasis
  4. Excave Series
  5. Gotta Protectors
  6. LBX: Little Battlers eXperience
  7. Legna Tactics
  8. Pushmo, Stretchmo, Crashmo
  9. Puzzle & Draongs + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition
  10. Shinobi
  11. Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (tactical rpg!)
  12. RE Mercenaries
  13. RE Revelations
  14. Tales of the Abyss
  15. Twilight Princess Picross (from Nintendo rewards shop)
  16. Dragon Ball Fusions
  17. 7th Dragon III Code VFD
  18. Pokemon Crystal (has Celebi event baked in)

And don't forget DLC for games like Fire Emblem (primarily Fates!) and Fantasy Life, among other games.

A reminder in the 11th hour... you want to make sure your Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo account are linked and your funds merged to purchase 3DS games online. I was pretty sure I'd already done this earlier, but I was somehow unlinked and had to link the accounts all over again.

I'm streaming some of the new Dead Cells Return to Castlevania DLC for those that want to see it in action.

Edit: Here's the archive for Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania. Starting with a fresh save, it was a bit confusing how to go about doing the Castlevania stuff since it requires two runs to be able to start it, but then it's obvious with the alternate path showing up in the starting area in the game. At least you get to listen to lots of Castlevania music throughout the game either way.

Nintendo going to let everyone buy the original Pokémon games on the 3DS virtual console before re-releasing them. I think it would be cool if they released red, blue, and yellow handhelds with the games on them. Hopefully more comfortable than those game and watch though.

I was wondering why I had to do that again.

I've been arguing with myself ever since I got the pair of vouchers what to use the second one on. The first one went straight to preordering Tears of the Kingdom. I want something a) that generally holds its price, maxing out the value of the voucher, b) rarely if ever goes on sale and c) is a game I can put a LOT of hours into. I'm torn between Fire Emblem 3 Houses and Link's Awakening, based on the currently available options. I've got all the Mario and Pokemon games I want to play currently, Link's Awakening is the only Zelda title on the list that is on my wish list, and I refuse to go down the Animal Crossing rabbit hole again. Got that crack monkey off my back after the 3DS version.

I love Link's Awakening but it's been $22 used at GameStop, $30 new before. Also probably completed in less than 20 hours.

You have 12 months before the voucher expires. If nothing screams out at the moment I would just wait until something does.

This is what I'm doing. I'm not going to get the voucher until like May 11th so I can maximize the year. Hoping that Metroid Prime 4 gets added if it gets a release date by then.

The developer Four Horses is trying to make their games free on 3DS saying they want to get their games into as many hands as possible before the eShop closes. They've already made Kid Tripp and Digger Dan free in Europe but Nintendo is currently preventing them from doing it in the US.

It could still happen, so keep an eye out. But whether or not it does, I think it's pretty awesome of them to do this. Miles & Kilo is another game of theirs, and Digger Dan DX is a 3DS exclusive.

Worst case scenario I'd recommend Xenoblade 3 as I doubt that game gets a significant drop anytime soon and meets the criteria above.

Especially since the houses routes are mostly bloat from having to do the beginning portion from scratch each time. With the exception of silver and red since they are the only route split you can choose to do while the other is picked at the start before you even meet your students idiotically.

I got my Wii U new in 2012 at launch. It wasn't to far into it's life that when I tried to turn it on with the gamepad or front power button it would come up and say could not connect to gamepad. I have to hold the power button down for about 4 seconds to get it to work and start up. This is something I've gotten use to and I notice if I play it like within a day or 2 it might not do it always but longer it sits in standby the more likely it is to not startup first time. I can always tell if it's going to start first try or not because I hear the disc being accessed for the main menu. Anyone else deal with this for years or just me?

Kid Tripp is a pretty decent game. I'd pay 99 cents for Digger Dan if they priced it that low. Heck, there are lot of 3DS eShop games that I would buy if they only charged a dollar for them before the eShop closes.

My copy of Metroid Prime Remastered arrived today, I’m excited to try this, I was pretty young when this came out and never played much of it.

Thanks for the heads up. I played Digger Dan fairly recently, and thought it was a solid Boulderdash clone for what it's worth.

Speaking of cheap 3DS games, the developer of Fragrant Story put out a 10 second mini game version of one of his games. The hope is to be able to update it to the full RPG version after the closure of the eShop, but as it is now it's the bare minimum to get onto the system.

I thought it was an interesting enough undertaking to take the chance that nothing will come of it. If you're interested, here's more information on Otosan.

Fragrant Story is a scam honestly. I was disgusted and sold off my physical copy. I wouldn't trust the author after putting out that game in the sorry state it launched with.
