I don't know about "ashamed."
But this clearly shows that Nintendo knows on which side it's bread is buttered. The Monster Hunter franchise is HUGE in Japan. It resurrected the PSP single-handed, and kept it going for several years. When Nintendo managed to get the franchise on the 3DS, it was a major coup. Handing the likeness of one of their most popular and enduring IP to Capcom for the next iteration of Monster Hunter shows that they want to hang onto that series as long as possible.
