Nintendogs Question???

I know you can unlock all the other dogs from the other versions by earning "Owner Points" without linking up with another version of the game,

But what I am wondering is if I buy "Nintendogs: Lab & Friends" can I still get a Chihuahua or Dachshund in that version using earned "Owner Points" without linking to the another person's version,

Because I don't know anyone else with a DS but I would like to get all the dogs...
 
Yes!

All three versions will have all the dogs ultimately unlockable. I don't know *how* the unlocking happens though--meaning if you get to choose which dog you unlock, or if it is just random.
