I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction, or give me some inside info.

I am employed, but we got an email today sent to all of our salaried producers (Insurance Agency).

"Based on the results of a recent audit by the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency,
compensation paid to our producers has been determined "ineligible wages" for state unemployment.
Therefore, amounts paid to you by xxxx Inc. do not qualify you for collection of state unemployment benefits."

Is this normal practice or a new change? Thats a little scary that i would not even have unemployment to fall back on, in a worse case scenario.

It looks like you found a good reason to stay at your job until you have another one.

If the gubmint didn't collect unemployment premiums from your employer, you wouldn't be eligible for unemployment benefits.

yeah except I pay MESC on every check....

MESC: Michigan Employment Security Commission

Hmm seems very odd.

I had no intentions on leaving but this is a bit strange.

The good news is you don't get paid unemployment if you choose to leave anyway.

The bad news is you won't get paid unemployment if they downsize now.

Thanks FoC, I will read up on it.

I figured the base salary was covered with unemployment but maybe not the commission above and beyond collected at the end of the year.

With this covering even my base salary its a pretty big worry.
