I just bought one of these for $199 two weeks ago and I thought I'd post in case anyone didn't know about this. I'm considering buying another for myself since that one was a gift.
NOOK Color Refurb - $179 @ eBay from B&N Warehouse
These are factory recertified Nook Colors with a one year warranty. They inspect them so there are no cracks or scratches on the readers and they come looking brand new. I believe new ones run around $250.
They run Android and can be rooted easily. I did the one I bought as a gift in probably half an hour, most of which was waiting for downloads. You can either flash the internal memory or boot off the micro SD card so you can have an unmodified Nook just by taking the card out.
It has a beautiful 7 inch screen which is slightly smaller than the 9 inch one on the HP touch pads that everyone is going crazy over. The screen is large enough to comfortably view non mobile formatted websites but the form factor is small enough to fit in a cargo pants pocket. It has 8GB internal storage with a micro SD slot that allows you to add up to 32GB. The device is responsive and I didn't have any problems running multiple apps. It can also be overclocked which can lengthen battery life since the voltage is lower.
The Android market lets you access the Kindle app so you can buy books on whichever service is cheaper. I tried out a comic reader on the one I rooted and it works great, which is why I'm really considering getting one myself. Plus I can see it being great for game walkthroughs or FAQs instead of having a laptop in my lap.
The only downsides that I could see are the lack of 3G and a camera, but that might not be a big deal for some.
