My friend and I could use a diversion for a coming weekend. We both enjoy Silent Hill and the RE series, so I was wondering if the Co Op of this game would be worth a play through(especially considering its budget price point)? I've read that it's a huge amalgamation of stereotypes, but that's part of its charm. Any thoughts?

It's pretty fun, you can share items and whatnot, one person holds the flashlight and the other holds the gun.. it's worth the $20 tag, definately..

Reality's Fringe]It sounded cool said:
Sorry for my stupidity, but what are the Contra and Secret of Mana syndrome? I haven't encountered any bugs.. And yeah, there's more than one weapon. There's a pistol and a shotgun that i've seen, plus wooden and aluminum bats.. I haven't gotten far in the game though. A big plus is that there's like.. a group of four kids, and you can pick two, then if you get low on health, switch them out.. some kids are better in some areas than others (like lockpicking, for example).. and you can trade equipment between people.. good stuff.

Those are terms I use to describe either loss of Health/Life if one partner gets too far from another(Contra Syndrome), or the confinement of a player to the general area where the other player still is and thusly impeding the other player from moving forard any further until the other catches up(Secret of Mana Syndrome). That last one could really hurt if you're getting pummeled by some unmentionable demon and can't go anywhere. So far it sounds pretty sweet, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna give it a go.

From what I remember when I played the game with my friend, if one of you hits the door to leave a room, the other person is automatically taken along (unless that person is getting eaten by a monster which happened at one point to us). Otherwise the camera is focused on one of the two players, and can be switched by pressing the circle button. The other player can run out of the camera's view and will not stop the player the camera is focused on from moving wherever they want in an area. However this has the downside that you can't tell if the person outside the camera's sight is being attacked or not. It is best to stick close together overall. The game is full of the typical teen horror cliches and stereotypes, but as mentioned that's part of what makes it fun. Overall for 20 bucks, you can't really go wrong with a co-op game like this. It's not overly difficult if you both stay on the same page, and assign each other roles i.e. meleer and range attacker. There are also some unlockables you can get in terms of weapons when you beat the game on its various difficulty levels.

Unfortunately my friend tends to be a button masher at every game he plays no matter the genre, so we were having a hard time with keeping our characters healed and such during and after battles.

One final warning, if you play with the AI as your partner, I've read that you should NOT give them a weapon, as they're very trigger happy and will burn all your ammo rather fast. If you give them just a flashlight though, they'll be pretty helpful.

All right, sounds good to go for me. I was a bit leary as it was a budget title, but there are some really good ones out there. My friend and I need something to do next weekend that doesn't involve copious amounts of anal penetration between ourselves.

lol, i thought you were actually talking about obscure co-op games for the PS2... cuz there are quite a few
