One Year Down: How Do The PlayStations Stack Up?

Pretty good article except for two glaring mistakes.

1. the author keeps referring to "shipped" numbers as sales, and that is not the case.

2. PSN does not boast all the same features as Xbox Live. Just because the PS3 has online play and chat doesn't mean it is comparable to the features of live.

Good comparison. For me the PS3 is only about first party software; Motorstorm, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted kick all kinds of ass. Nearly everything else is available on the 360 with increased functionality (Live, acheivements, framerates).

"The PlayStation Network, while still free, now offers most of the same features that Xbox Live users are enjoying." Sorry, but I can't seem to get a game going with a bunch of CAGs on the PS3 network. It can be difficult on Live at times, but it is usually accomplished. The Sony network does do one thing better than the Marketplace- they have (quality, not advertisments) free pics, themes, and a song or two.

Also, I think you should have included that one year later, BC is not longer emphasized. Considering the PS2 library is both vast, and has a number of great titles, this is a disappointent for Sony.

It never says the PS3 has "all" the same features. It says it has "most" of the same, and it's even getting more in the coming months that actually take the next step with what the XBL is currently doing.

Can someone explain all the better stuff Live has? I've never really used Live but have some general understanding of why it's better than PSN.

Ok:

1) A friends list, you can see what all of your friends are doing anytime, in any game. As far as I know, you can only see what your friends are doing in the crossbar.

2) Movies and TV on demand, although I've never paid for this.

3) A greater selection of downloadable games. Not better quality, I think Sony has them on quality with Warhawk, Super Stardust HD, Everyday Shooter.

How does it have "most" of the features?
I can't see what game my friend is playing
There is no way to stop my game and go to see my friends list.
No messenger integration.
No voice chat while I am playing a different game than my friend.
No gamerscore with nerd points to show off to my friends.
No comprehensive friends list across all games.
No cohesiveness in the way friends lists are managed in different games.
No ability to download South Park episode Guitar Queero.
