What is your opinion on the communist man who claimed he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ and forced over 900 people to commit mass suicide, and then assassinated an American politician and his committee who tried to prevent the mass suicide? I think he was a bastard who deserved to die, and it's a shame so many people followed him and killed themselves just because he told them to.

Funny, I was reading about this while I did an essay on Waco.

Really a sad event, I feel bad for the people that couldn't get out, and the guy that survived describing the mothers giving the children the poison first had be all torn up.

religion is a powerful tool its amazing how he was able to get people to follow him but its shitty how it all turned out.

It is truly pathetic how people buy into things and will believe whatever they are told. Reminds of the "Heaven's Gate" cult that killed themselves over a comet...almost 40 people committed suicide.

Double J had one of the most craziest laughs you ever heard. It was like some sort of LSD induced hyena.

I saw a History Channel documentary on this about a year ago. Very interesting but haunting stuff.

One of the things that stuck out in my mind was that he used to tell the children of Jonestown that a monster lived in a well. He did this to frighten them and keep them obedient. Occasionally he would actually put a child in the well all night long and they would cry and scream thinking a monster was down there with them in the dark. I couldn't imagine the fear he put those poor kids through.

He was not a great human being, but at the same time the mass suicide was only possible because 900 people were kind of stupid.
