Since I got a Wii this christmas I have nothing to do with my old gamecube. So I decided to paint it then go the PS3 fan route and sell it to atlest get most of what I payed for it back.

So has anyone had any experience painting systems? The few guides I have found online are vauge and don't help much.

Sorry if this has been posted before but I didnt see any when I searched

Paint??

go to decalgirl.com and get a vinyl for your system.

It would just ruin the value of your system if you paint it, unless you are a professional.

it wont ruin the value if you do it right.

Take on old NES console, paint it gold with a big Tri-Force on top and see what it sells for on ebay...

Ive successfully painted several computer cases using nothing more than canned spraypaint and primer, and a few simple items (no power tools or paintguns, airbruhes, etc) and theyve come out great. (well, maybe not the first one ;) )

Its requires alot more than just spraying on a coat of paint tho.

If you dont mind spraying and sanding several coats of primer, paint, and then clearcoat, you can do a nice job. The main things to remember are it takes time and patience.

Heres a few guides on case painting, these same basics will apply to paintingh your console. The main difference with consoles would be that you would have to take the console apart and seperate the actual case for painting.

*edit* btw, I think those vinyl decals just look like crap on any system.

Paint, primer, and the like is unnecessary. What you want is vinyl dye, its just like spray paint except it actually seeps into the plastic and gets into all the little nooks and crannies. Just make sure you clean off all the parts first for dust and dirt. Look at the case mods here, its what turned me on to vinyl dye a few years ago.

Its easy to use but the fumes are horrible. If you look at the projects on that page, he even did a keyboard and the letters still showed though. I did my PS1 a couple years ago, I recently did my DVD player too for fun. Stuff works out great.

Depending on how much work you wanna do, look into changing the LED to match the paint job, you can also add LEDs to the vents on the sides and controller ports too. The shiny circle jewel part on the lid can also be replaced with a colored one. gameconsoleskins.com sell them last time I looked.

Thanks for all the replies, just a few questions: How much does this vinyl dye cost? and are there any guides on taking apart the system? Apparently you need a special kind of screw driver to take it apart

That sounds pretty cool. Im def gonna look into this for the next PC I build....
