Paypal problem

I received a message from eBay and Paypal saying that I shouldn't pay for an item that I had won a few weeks prior. Turns out the seller, who at the time I purchased from him had pretty good feedback, decided to start scamming people. I filed the Item Not Received dispute, escalated it to a claim, and today Paypal ruled in my favor (the seller is no longer registered on eBay, and he didn't respond). However, it said that they couldn't recover any funds from his account. I used existing Paypal funds for this particular transaction (no credit card for this one means no chargeback), so am I out of luck? Is there anything I can do?

So if I understand this right, the payment you sent him was money from previous transactions? If so, yeah, you're pretty much screwed. Unless they eventually get the money back from him, you won't see a penny of that money.

That's why many users have said to pay with a credit card. That way if you do end up getting scammed, the credit card company can get the money back.

That's what I was afraid of. If I don't have any money in my Paypal account, then I do use a credit card. If I've sold stuff recently, then I use the existing Paypal funds. I guess I'll be taking money out whenever I sell stuff now. Thanks for the reply.
Im not even sure paypal lets you pay for EBAY things with anything but account funds if they exist.
I think they do, I'm pretty sure I've done it before.

With all these probs popping up around the past several months, I pay for everything via credit card backing, then take the pay pal funds and deposit to my bank and send a quick payment to the cc.

its the only real protection anymore.

You have to transfer your paypal balance out so it nets to 0 before it shows the credit card funding/payment option now.

you can, during checkout you have to manually change your funding source. By [permanent] default its set to use Existing funds -> checking account -> backup funding source for every transaction. Just change your funding source to a CC of your choice thats on file.
Just out of curiosity, how much was it?
That's a new one on me. I thought that if you had funds in your account, it wouldn't let you change it.
