CAGiversary!
Alright guys, just wanted to inform you that the MSI 9800 Pro is on sale for 185 bucks on www.newegg.com.
More specifically here, http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-127-127&depa=0
It is a very good card, and I have been saving up for it for quite a while... I found out about this deal through the October 2004 Issue of GamePro that I just received in the mail the other day. I scanned the ad so you guys can see what I'm talking about....

So there you go....

However, some of you may have asked, well why is the price still 196 bucks with 3 dollar shipping on the site...? Well I want to know as well... Just tonight, I sent out this e-mail to the customer service department at Newegg...

Pricing of MSI 9800 Pro in October 2004 Issue of GamePro?

To whom it may concern,

Just the other day, I received the latest issue of GamePro in the
mail. I was looking through it when I came across your ad on page 107.
Under the video cards section of the ad, the MSI ATI Radeon 9800 Pro,
128 MB DDR 256-Bit DVI/S-Video 8x AGP, is listed at a price of
$185.00.

However, on your site, the MSI 9800 Pro is at a price of $196.00...

Here's the link...
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-127-127&depa=0

Also, the shipping is a charge of $2.95 on the site, whereas at the
bottom of the ad, it states that Free FedEx Express Saver Shipping
applies to all of the items listed on the page.

Could you tell me whether these prices come into effect now, and what
I could do, whether it be a coupon code or anything, to get the MSI
9800 Pro for $185.00? I am really interested in getting this video
card as soon as possible....

Thanks in advance. I appreciate your help.

I'll keep you guys updated on what I hopefully receive an answer to my question tomorrow. Just thought this was a great time to update your computer due to Half Life 2 coming out and Doom III already alive and kickin'.

Not bad, although for the extra $85 I think the 6800 is a better deal (it's just barely faster enough to make it worth it, and the extra features don't hurt either). Although it may be worth it waiting a few months if you're patient and getting a 6600 for that price, as it looks like it'll be just a little faster than the 9800 and offer the same features as the 6800 series. Actually now that I think about it, I may just wait until the black friday sale at Bestbuy and see what card they have on sale (since they always have 1 card for uber-cheap during that sale).

Yeah, that is true... I've heard some good things about the upcoming 6600 series. However, refresh my memory, when is Black Friday?

OOOOOHHHH, I just found out. The day after Thanksgiving, eh? While it would save me a bunch of money, that is too long of a wait for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well, usually for the Black Friday sale they take the current ~$200 card and sell it for $60-$80, that's how I got my TI4200 2 years ago for $70. For the price difference, I definatly think I'll wait for it, even if it is a few months away. I just hope it isn't 9800pro cards that are the pick for this year though, they're good cards but they'll seem pretty outdated by then.

Just wish the 6600 didn't have 128 bit memory bus...if only it had a 256 bit like the 6800 series. Oh well, I guess if they did that then noone would buy 6800 cards for $300+ :p

I got a Radeon 9600 for 70 bucks so I know ecactly whatt you are talking about

I strongly recommend buying the RX9800 if you've got the money. MSI outfits all of their new cards with an RV360 core, which is the same core they've got in a 9800 XT. I hear it also overclocks like a dream.

All in all, you get a pseudo-9800 XT for the price of a 9800 Pro. Not bad at all.
Where was this when I paid $250 for one about 3 weeks ago?
Meh, man you always have to look on newegg first for all your computer needs.

Well here's what I got back from the customer service department at Newegg....

Well, I will tell you this, it is indeed the October 2004 issue. I presume that the prices won't take effect 'til September though, as that is when this magazine should be on the market. Maybe since I'm a subscriber I got the magazine earlier? Who knows. I'll just hold off until September and get it then I guess.

Ive seen the ATI brand 9800 Pro for 199$ at a few different places lately, personally I would rather get the ATI brand one. I got my ATI 9800 PRO about a year ago new off of ebay for 320$.

Yeah, good point. However, the best part of the MSI 9800 Pro is that it shouws up as a 9800 XT because of its core.
