I've just recently got back into the fray of gaming on my PC after I was able to build a new gaming rig. Steam Summer Sale also helped me go broke and a build a decent library of games to play.

My question is, what gaming keyboards and mice do you all use? I play most genres of games so I don't really want something that is specific to a "type" of game. I would like to know thoughts on wireless vs. wired as well

Also, if any of you all do a lot of multiplayer games and such and would like to add me as a friend on Steam, that would be great as my friends are mostly lost to the world of consoles. :bouncy:

I've got a R.A.T 7 mouse which i love... yes the mouse is $100 but it's easily the best mice I've ever owned. I love it because my hand is oddly shaped and I can adjust the mouse to the best fit for me which makes it worth the money.

I've always been a fan of Logitech keyboards. Currently I have a logitech G510 and I love it. I know it's just a dumb feature but I love that I can change the color of the keys.

Gaming Mouse- MX518 $29.99 on amazon.
Gaming Keyboard- Logitch G series

Your going to want wired for gaming. Wireless will work but wired will guarantee no chance of interference whatsoever.

I had logitech products for years and use them for all my mouse/keyboard/gamepad needs. Been using their products for years and it still works as good as the day I bought it.

He's spot on with the wired part. I had a wireless mouse for a short time a few years back and I had nothing but issues with it and for the price I paid for it I could of had a really really nice wired gaming mouse. I've always had issues with wireless mice and I can't understand why people buy them so often. I've also noticed that the longer you own them the closer and closer you have to be to the receiver. By the time I finally got rid of the Microsoft wireless mouse I had I basically had to have the mouse 1 inch from the giant receiver for it to work without tripping out.

For a mouse, I use a Razer DeathAdder. Been using them for years now, by far my favorite. I'd say the mouse comes down to personal preference (how large your hand is, whether your use a palm or fingertip grip, etc...). Go to a place like Best Buy, or if you have one, a Microcenter or Frys and check out the various mice and find what feels comfortable to you.

For a keyboard, I use an ABS M1 Pro. It's a mechanical keyboard. I enjoy the tactile feedback that you get from a mechanical keyboard over what is delivered from your standard keyboard that uses a membrane.

Also a good idea is if you do want a mechanical keyboard look around for old ibm keyboards either in thrift stores or places that give away old technology. If you can find one, it might cost like $10-20 max but those things still work amazing. All you would need is a PS2 to USB adapter unless your PC does have a PS2 port.

You can still buy oldschool mechanical keyboards new? I've been looking for one for years. The IBM keyboards were amazing.

They don't make them anymore, which is why he said to check thrift stores. If you cant find one there, expect to pay $70+ for a mechanical keyboard. The one I have I got from Newegg on sale for like $50, but it doesn't look like they carry it any more.

I found a few mechanical keyboards on amazon. One they say "Das Keyboard compares to the legendary IBM model M". Still costs, like you said, around $70.

Awesome, thanks everyone. I've definitely been looking at the g series but was unsure of the quality of the razer stuff. Are there any retailers that sell the razer products so I can get a first hand feel for them...Best Buy...etc...?

Well yeah, they still make mechanical keyboards, but the old IBM ones are no longer in production.

Best Buy does indeed sell Razer products.

Best Buy, Frys, and Microcenter are the ones that come to mind. Microcenter and Frys aren't in every state so I would check their websites to see if they have a store in your location.

I second the Deathadder, just picked one up after my Sidewinder gave up, it has a great feel to it. I'm thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard myself.

If you're going to spend anywhere near $90 for a keyboard, then it better be a mechanical keyboard. Even Razer's BlackWidow is better than a shitty Logitech G series. If you are going to get a mechanical keyboard keep in mind that cherry MX blue switches are pretty loud (Blackwidow's switches) and cherry MX brown switches are much quieter, but still produce sound. I find both to be great for typing on. Cherry MX Black switches are also pretty good, but I would take brown/blue over black any day. Those are the 3 most common ones you'll find for decent prices. I believe the cheapest new mechanical keyboard you'll find right now is the Razer BlackWidow, which is surprisingly pretty good although a bit loud.

Go with the Logitech MX518 for a mouse. Best mouse ever. I would stay away from Razer products that involve fancy lights though. They seem to always break on me. I had a Razer Lycosa stop working within 2 days of having it. Even my Deathadder stopped working in 5 days. It was ridiculous. Razer's products are usually shit quality, which is why I was surprised as hell when their mechanical keyboard was actually good.

Edit - Almost forgot! If you go directly through DAS's website, they offer students a 25% discount on their keyboards. After discount, they are about $100 on their website.

It's always crazy to me when people have problems with their Razer, I've had my Tarantula keyboard for about 4 years now and never had a problem with it. Now, I haven't had my Deathadder very long, but definitely longer then 5 days.:)

Thanks for the suggestions all! Definitely going to give a mechanical keyboard a try. I'm also going to give the deathadder a whirl, really liked the feel of it at Best Buy last night. Hopefully I won't have any issues out of it.

Haven't done much gaming on PCs since 2000 or so, that was the last time I owned a legit gaming PC. Really enjoying getting back into it. :applause:

For someone who hasn't done much PC gaming since 2000 you have ALOT of games. You rival even me... look forward to playing with you. We are probably going to do some BC2: Vietnam tonight. You are welcome to join, if you wish.

I have a Razer DeathAdder mouse. I actually really like it, I use it at work, far better then the crappy Microsoft mouse. That being said I had a previous Razer product and it would CONSTANTLY disconnect. The USB device would disconnect and reconnect while I was gaming... not really helpful when your trying to aim.

Mouse: Logitech G700. I love it, had to exchange the first one I received from newegg though cuz of a defective right click button (too sensitive). This replaced my Logitech G7 and is the best wireless gaming mouse I've used.

Keyboard: Razer Tarantula. I plan to replace it eventually with a mechanical keyboard. I got it a few years ago for around $18 (can't remember exact price, but it was less than $20) at Best Buy. A couple of the keys are less sensitive than the others, Razer isn't known for great QC/build quality so I guess it's to be expected. Good deal for the price I paid for it.

LOL, Let me just say that the Steam Summer Sale destroyed my wallet. Who knows when I'll actually get to all those games.

I've learned that digital media doesn't appear that I've spent much money as having my physical media grow over time and take up more shelf space...at least it doesn't to my wife. :booty:

The nice thing about Steams sales is that they are so incredibly amazing that it doesn't take that much money. I've probably saved 80% overall across all of my games over the years. I picked up Bad Company 2 for 6.80, Mafia II for like 10, Mass Effect II for 10. I bought the THQ complete pack a couple years ago for 50 bucks and it has something like 20 games in it.

I used to hate Steam but they've made such a great platform that I can't imagine not using it anymore. Just makes everything so simple and all in one place with a large community.

I do hope my wife doesn't truly know how much money my Steam account is worth. I think she would drop a brick at a. The number of games and b. The amount of money I've spent on them so far :D
