fucking hippies, check.

Overly-maligned pop figure (Churchill), check.

Symbolism overlapping with the IWW, which hasn't mattered since our grandparents were alive, check.

Really, though, I've protested before and I'd do it again; I respect the people doing this, even if I don't agree with all they stand for or the means by which they do it. Making fun of them is cute, but it also simply quashes the conversation at that point, and delegitimizes their arguments.

So, when we elect McCain, and in 18 months we've deployed troops to take down Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, are we going to apologize to these protestors for ignoring their message? Or are we just going to make fun of the next set of them?

I know what this gang'll do.

That's Plan B.

Plan A is the same as plan B, but involves the Iranian providing a corpse so that I can fake my own death.

Then, I can return to my family and spend the millions of dollars. I'll need new fingerprints, new DNA and, of course, a new name. I'm thinking Guy Incognito.

Fair enough. I don't believe for a second that Obama is as gung-ho about invading Iran as Bush was and McCain is - but I won't act like he's totally against the notion.

Still, the protestors do actually have points. It's not like they're protesting for another "Starbucks" or soemthing.

I have great respect for people who protest (as long as they are not violent). It's their right and I think if they feel this way they should by all means make it known. Unfortunately, there is a large faction in these groups that seems to resort to violence all too often, or can't accept that people have different opinions from them. And yes, of course it's fun to make fun of these folks, just like all the protesters I see around DC all the time.

BTW, though, did you notice the banner in support of al-Sadr? I never thought I'd see that even from the loonies, but I should have known better.
