My friend just reminded me that Quake Live is out. It's still in beta form but it's completely free and you can play it directly through your browser.

Thanks for the post OP , I heard about this awhile ago though the only downside to this game sometimes is that it's rather difficult to get into because there's usually a lot of traffic for the game and then you gotta wait in line of other people joining
