PlayStation 3 Console Buying Advice - Used/New? Where to buy?

Cubivore

CAGiversary!
So my beloved 80GB backwards compatible PS3 has finally petered out on me and so I'm in the market for another PS3 console. I don't care about the backwards compatibility, I just wanna play Yakuza 5 before 6 comes out and I'd much rather just have a new working console. But even that seems to be hard to do at all anymore, let alone for a good price... So anyone have any suggestions for good places to buy a new console or the best place for a used/refurb one? Should I just bite the bullet and trust GameStop??? Any help is appreciated!

If you purchase from GS buy the warranty. The game takes an average of 60 hours to finish so you should be good. It's very difficult to find them new anymore.

Also make sure it's a pre-owned system and not a refurbished system. I heard about people having serious problems with refurbished systems for GS. And as Gideon68 said make sure you buy the warranty for it. You could also try local game stores and pawn shops if you have any where you live.

Another option is to have Sony repair it (1-800-345-7669) for $100. If it is too old to repair they stated they would replace it with a slim.

I'm in the same boat with my phat PS3. Are the slims more reliable? While I'd miss PS2 BC, I already have a PS2 from 2001.

If you still have your old console and want to keep it, I'll give a recommendation for PS3 Specialist.

I had an 60gb PS3 which had the YLoD, sent it to them to get it reballed and it's worked perfectly for the past two years.

I took my fried PS3 to a couple of local repair shops. Both said via a free estimate that they couldn't repair it so I wouldn't be willing to pay to mail it to a third guy.

The problem is that the console can't connect to the internet. Got fried in a storm while it was wired to the router, which along with the modem stopped functioning!

My son's PS3 just started acting up. You put a game in and it doesn't show the game title under games. Can't play any games on disc. Its like the system doesn't know there is a game inserted.

I don't remember for sure but I think there was a common problem with some PS3 fat models, the disc drive or disc laser is bad. I think it's a relatively easy fix.

Can it view DVDs or blu-rays? My optical died years ago. That was an easy fix for a repair shop.

Hi. I have a ps3 slim that is in excellent condition. Not sure if u were interested in that. I can also send pics via text.

As for ps3 there is the ps3 slim and ps3 super slim. It all comes down to what u like better. Also, if u get it at gamestop, do get the warranty. U can see if any cag is selling one?

Good luck in your search.
