Playstation 3 - Just a system

ck76

CAGiversary!
So here's my situation.

I own a PS3 slim (I put in a 500GB HDD) and have for 18 months now.  My lovely lady put in a old DVD and apparently it got stuck and has messed up the ability of the system to eject discs.  I tried everything, including manual eject using a phillips screw driver as saw on Sony's site to no avail.

At this point it looks like I need to buy a new PS3.

All I want is a system, bundles hold no value to me (besides I generally already own the games included)

HDD means nothing to me as just plan to put my 500GB HDD in it anyways.

I searched around and it seems like all I find is $270-$300 bundled systems. Which is frustrating as I paid $250 for this one (a PS3 slim with 160GB HDD) 18 months ago.

What are my options?

Any help be appreciated as I just got "The Last of Us" and cannot play it until this is resolved.

I appreciate the response. Still a bundle and I already have Uncharted 3 so no value there. 320GB HDD is nice, but again nothing there for me.  I am not a fan of this generation's concept of putting in bigger and bigger HDDs and bundling to keep price up.  I swear PS3s should have bare bones 40GB HDD version for $150-$180 range.

Sigh.  I will have to think on this. Again, not your fault, thank you for replying.

Your best bet is probably eBay. I know you don't want bundles, but there is a Need For Speed bundle with auction/$225 BIN and another bundle that includes 4 games and 9 Blu-ray movies.

My kid shoved 4 disks in all at once and they wouldn't come out.  Now this is going to sound like it won't work but it will.  Simply turn your PS3 so that the disk drive faces the ground.  Then hit the eject button.  Let the motor + gravity work together.  It should come right out, it worked for me with 4 disks stuck in there at once.

Speaking of which, this is why I'm in the market for a new PS3.  My kid was actually shoving multiple disks in there for about a year (from about age 1 to age 2).  Now the first couple of minutes a disk spins it sounds fucked up like it's wobbling while rotating.  I'm sure my drive will die eventually.  Getting a new PS3 on Black Friday.

I tried tipping it on every side. It acts like it already ejected the disc, does not recognize it to be in the player and does the three beeps like "there's no disc in here". Obviously there is and if you try to load it feel disc butting up against disc inside.

Read the OP

I know its probably going to be no good but have you tried calling sony support to help. They will probably tell you to do the manual eject, but maybe they have another idea of how to fix it. Also slim chance of help but you can try and bring your ps3 to a local gamestop of Best Buy and see if someone there can help you out. Certain gamestops ( I believe) have special tools for fixing on small issues with consoles. Can call ahead to check.

Also I have read about a ton of places where people will advertise ps3 and other game console repairs. Maybe you can find one locally. I am sure if you search online you can probly find someone who can help get the disc out all you have to do is pay shipping and service fee, which if your lucky shouldn't cost more than 50$, better than having to go thru hasstle of selling broken one and buying a new one. An you might even get your DVD out!

Otherwise best option if you want to play NOW, is craiglist or eBay as everyone has said. If you really wanna play Last of Us just buy a digital version off the PSN store and download it while you wait out for black friday.

If you do end up having to sell this one off and buy a new one, I suggest getting the replacement system first, you can do a data transfer over so you dont have to reisatll all your games and dlc invidually andall your conten, settings, etc. all transfer over.

I was lucky, my FAT ps3 was acting a bit odd (pretty sure it was going to flatline any day), Through a combination of selling my old 80gb to gamestop and pricemathching (elsewhere) a complicated deal, I came out on top by paying 50$ for a 320gb new slim with a new warranty. Needless to say felt like a true cag that day.

Thank you everyone for replying.

I took it to a friend who knows repair stuff better. He got the [expletive] DVD out finally.  So now it can sort of eject, but you have to fanaggle it out for a few minutes with manual eject and turning it so tray faces down.

The good news is she uses my PS3 so much for movies and shows and felt bad she agreed to go in for a PS4 at launch (which I had not planned on) so she can watch her shows and movies without going through the whole eject ordeal every time.

The PS3 is still usable for PS3 games, just have to resign self for long sessions with a single game.  Oh, and I finally got to start "the Last of Us"! which will take up my weekend.
