So I purchased a used 20gb PS3 from my local Gamecrazy 4 or 5 days ago. Well today was the first day I could use it since I had to wait for my hdmi cables to get in the mail...

So I hook everything up correctly, turn my tv on.....start up the ps3 and everything is going fine but then i start to notice the screen will flicker to black after being on for 3 or 4 seconds then it repeats and it really isn't a flicker but the screen goes black for maybe 1 second but then the screen goes back to where the game was currently at, which happened to be just the main screen because I was trying to figure out the problem.

I made sure all the wires and everything were in place correctly and pushed all the way in.......so I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this happening before or should I just bring the dam thing back to Gamecrazy?

Also I was thinking it might be the hdmi cables.....is that possible? Or should I just assume its the ps3 thats acting up?

sigh, another one...

dude, use the cheapo AV cable that come with the PS3 (or your PS2's if your used PS3 don't have it, if you don't have a PS2, then borrow or buy one). Test the PS3 using that cable... If that doesn't work, then it's fair to say the PS3 is defective.

Will try it right now, thanks man.

hold the power button on the ps3 down once you start it up until you hear a second beep. this resets everything to factory defaults. Then use the standard av cable and see how everything goes from there.

Well I changed the settings on the PS3 to 1080i because it was on 1080P....I called the gamecrazy where I bought it from and thats what they told me to do, but that didnt help at all.

The guy told me to just bring it back and he will give me store credit for it which is like $340 which blows since I spent $130 in cash on it and they wont credit that part back on my credit card........and I do not want to spend any more money on another ps3 so now I am probably going to be stuck with this dam credit until they get another used 20gb ps3 in stock.

I called every gamecrazy in the area and not 1 of them even had a used ps3 in stock.

Guess I can try resetting to factory settings but if that doesnt work, then I guess I am sol which fucking blows.

Btw thanks everyone for the help even if I still cant get this piece of shit to work.

Game Crazy should have made sure it worked in the first place before letting someone trade it in.

What type of TV is it? Have you ever tried the HDMI on your TV before?

Yes I have tried the HDMI on my tv before, my friend has brought his ps3 over and my tv is the Westinghouse 42' LCD tv.

And I called over to gamecrazy again and the guy I talked to said that when they took it in it was doing the same thing, but they all assumed it was because they guy that traded it in just had the settings for 1080p and the guys at gamecrazy were trying it on a 720p tv I believe.

Should I complain to get my cash credited back to my credit card or maybe even better try and make them find me another working 20gb ps3 in another state since I cant find any here.

Yeah you should go back and complain until they refund your money, if not then call your credit card company.

Another option is to just get it fixed by Sony.

Ahh very good points, thanks for that :)

Ok well I tried the idea of resetting to the factory settings and that didnt help either. Not sure what the hell is wrong with this piece of shit, but its going back first thing when I get up tomorrow. Thanks everyone for trying to help me fix the problem.

I'm upset with Game Crazy because they should have made sure to reset the display settings (holding the power button) and making sure it works fine, then try to setup the HD. This definitely makes me to not want to shop at Game Crazy again.

Don't you get any warranty from GameCrazy? Seems to me that they should have to replace it regardless. Even if that means giving you a new one?

Yep, they told me I have 90 days from the purchase date to return it. But it never stated that I would get screwed in the end for this one.

Alright well I went over to the gamecrazy today to return it and to my surprise all the guys I liked were there, so since they messed up they decided to refund the entire purchase which was around $370 with tax and put it all on my credit card.

Very nice considering only $130 was used off my credit card. Now its like I have an extra $200 to blow since I had nothing else on my credit card anyways haha.
