I'm considering buying PS+ and was wondering about some things.  Some of these might seem obvious to an experienced user but I'm brand new to PS+ so I'll probably be asking some simple questions.

--The games they're offering for free, are these only playable on their respective systems or can Vita games be played on the PS3?  Also, do these game accumulate over time or do they have limited time availability?  Are the free games downloaded to the hard drive or are they only available through a "cloud"?

--Do any retailers have the occasional sale on PS+ or is $50 pretty much a set price?

--What are some general pros and cons when comparing PS+ to XBL?

Thanks for any help provided.  Also, if anyone has any opinions to offer beyond what I asked about, please feel free to let me know.

- Respective systems only (no Vita games on PS3), they accumulate over time so that you can amass a huge collection, and you must download them in full to your hard drive.

- They're rare, but they happen.  I've seen a Best Buy year of PS+ for ~$40, but that was a long time ago (March, I think).

- Lots of free games vs. a few free games.  PS+ also backs up your save files for you and gives you access to 60-minute full game trials (including trophies), while I'm not sure if XBL does either.

PS+ is $40 right now at BBY with a free Gamer's Club coupon. That's the usual sale price.

Log into myrz.com and click on get coupon. You have to sign up for it if you haven't already. It expires 9/28. I'm not going to use my coupon, so I can buy it for you and have it shipped to you if you want.

I just signed-into Best Buy's Gamer'sClub and the BB website for PS+ 12 month subscription card automatically showed the Gamer'sClub $10 off discount.  Meanng the 12 month PS+ card price displayed as $39.99.  The 3 month PS+ sub' card showed the regular price of $17.99 but it included a free 1 month PS+ Voucher code, so it was close to $5 off.

Bottom line either sign up for Best Buy's Gamer's Club either online or in the store.  And don't let them confuse you with the paid membership; which isn't required for this special.  The paid membership does include great discounts if you're into buying new releases & used games without their prices being rock bottom.

In order for the games to accumulate, you must "buy" them during the free period. After that they will be in your download history and you'll be able to download them or redownload them whenever you feel like.

Playstation Plus also allows for you to have cloud saves and automatic updates during the middle of the night.

Thanks for the continued replies.  sgand, I have that option as well so I'll be using it this week most likely.  Thanks for the offer though.

Just going by the games available right now that I would want (plus whatever comes up in the future) this looks like a really good value for me and probably a no-brainer.  It looks like I'll be joining the ranks of PS+ very soon.

Yeah, and you don't even need to complete the download. Just iniciate it, and cancel; after that the game will be on your download list available whenever you want.

About Vita games, you can download in your PS3, but do you have to transfer it to Vita via USB.

Just one last thing, the free games from Plus will expire after subscription ends, but the games, dlc and other stuff you buy with Plus discounts still will remain usable after that..
And all the free stuff you got from Plus and putted on your download list, will be active again if you renew the subscription, even after a long time.

So glad i saw this!  the $10 discount is awesome!  I just sold my ps3 in anticipation of the ps4 (and to pay for half of the system) and was thinking i would definitely get ps+ on ps4 and for my vita... now i'll just hold onto this card for Nov 15th and I will have a year for 29 after a $10 reward certificate! :)

the only thing i am not happy about is i only have a 4gb memory stick for my vita... so only one game at a time for me.

--The games they're offering for free, are these only playable on their respective systems or can Vita games be played on the PS3? Vita games cannot be played on PS3 unless it's a PSN title which is playable on both. Also, do these game accumulate over time or do they have limited time availability? You can play any games that you download as long as your a member, offers before you became a member are void to you. Games are unlocked during your membership or if you restart your membership later. Are the free games downloaded to the hard drive or are they only available through a "cloud"? Harddrive

--Do any retailers have the occasional sale on PS+ or is $50 pretty much a set price? Best you usually see is 12 months for $50 + 3 months free.

--What are some general pros and cons when comparing PS+ to XBL? Pro free games, discount on games, Cons it cost $50 (but it's worth it IMO)

Thanks for any help provided. Also, if anyone has any opinions to offer beyond what I asked about, please feel free to let me know.
Hope this helps you. Sorry if it's already been answered.

Well, I'm in.  I'm DLing my first game now, RE Chronicles HD.  My PS3 is going to be busy trying to download all of the free games I want before tomorrow night.

As long as they are in your Queue you are golden so you don't have to download them all tonight unless you want to. I usually get them onto my list then as I finish 2 or so delete and download the next set.
