Hey CAGs,
hoping someone can give me a hand here... I think I'm going to have to return/exchange it for another one.

Just got my new Toshiba 32" 1080p TV, blown away by the picture... and then I heard the sound start crackling. It's intermittent, can't seem to come up with any one situation, but it definitely happens in any reasonable watching or gaming sessions.

It happens with PS3 or 360 connected by HDMI, also tested 360 with component cable. Seems to happen less with the component. I don't have a 2nd hdmi cable to test it with, which will be my next step.

I tried unplugging my wireless nearby to no effect. There's no headphone jack so I can't try that. Tried changing hdmi input ports, also no effect.

Meh, I don't know what else to try and I've gone through what google provided. Kinda bummed :p

Very appreciative of any help you all can give.

is it just happening when you're using something plugged into the tv, or does it also do it when you're just watching cable?

If you can exchange it, go for it.

But then, you should have surround sound anyway (1/2 of the "high-def" experience). TV speakers just can't compare.

This is the correct answer.

I remember reading reviews that the sound for some of the toshibas are messed up. I was thinking of buying one but didn't want the hassle. Supposedly toshiba doesn't have a fix.

Ok, so I tried plugging in to my cable... doesn't crackle! Now I really really don't understand. Tried a "rented" very expensive monster hdmi cable, same crackle.

I accept that I'm going to have to return it, I just need to understand why it wouldn't do it on cable... lol

Thoughts?

PS, would love to get surround, not in the cards for me right now. But also... I can't accept a piece of brand new hardware not in perfect condition.

I'm with you on the "100% working" unit; I wouldn't accept a new piece of equipment that had an issue...even if you weren't going to use it.

You don't happen to have a "Bass Boost" or anything like that turned on, do you?

I noticed on my HDTV that Bass Boost on the speakers made an odd "hollow" sound on a lot of programming. However, it was much more noticeable on games, and not on my cable.

I doubt yours is anything like that, but, it might be worth a shot to turn off all those "features", if you have any enabled.

Yep, return is the way to go.

Even if you get surround sound soon, better to exchange as if there's a problem with the sound on the TV there could be other defects that pop up later.
